The CCA Registry is quickly becoming the connection hub for certified Continuing Care Assistants (CCA) and counterparts in Nova Scotia. The Registry provides a way for certified CCAs and counterparts to get in touch with their peers, employers, industry, and educational opportunities, as well as provide a means for input to the future of their occupation. Prior to the Registry direct communications with CCA and counterparts was a difficult task leaving key messages regarding their occupation lost to them. Now we are sending newsletters to members containing a multitude of information and gathering input from members that will help to shape the future of this occupation. Registry members and other stakeholders are welcome to communicate with CCA and counterparts through the Registry’s communication channels. Another road block to shaping a positive future for this occupation is the lack of data regarding the numbers of CCA and counterparts as well as the inability to track mobility and attrition rates. This makes it difficult to be aware of the staffing challenges in this occupation group, such as the need for recruitment and appropriate education delivery. The CCA Registry collects data from its members and disseminates the information as needed to meet the demands of the employee and industry to best benefit the Registry members, health care clients, and the health care system as a whole. The CCA Registry is open to all Continuing Care Assistants, Personal Care Workers, Home Support Workers, Home Health Care Providers/Aides, all persons trained on the job, and conditional hires under the Department of Health Education Entry to Practice Policy.
