When it comes to procurement, having the right strategy in place is critical—especially in the face of potential global supply disruptions.

At Health Association Nova Scotia (HANS), our GPO procurement team is actively monitoring potential impacts related to the evolving situation in the Middle East and associated disruptions to international shipping.

In times like these, having access to a strong supplier network and trusted procurement support can make a meaningful difference.

We remain focused on supporting our members—helping them navigate challenges, maintain continuity, and access cost-effective solutions when it matters most.

After nearly 37 years of dedicated service, one of our longest‑serving employees, Sue Eisener-Murphy, is retiring effective April 1, 2026.

The LTD Plan Office has been guided by Sue’s leadership for more than 20 years in her role as Disability Program Manager. We are deeply grateful for her decades of dedication, expertise, and commitment, and we are thrilled for Sue as she begins this well‑deserved next chapter. Sue will remain with us for a period of time in a part‑time consulting role, which we are incredibly thankful for.

Sue is looking forward to having more time to focus on the things that bring her joy — especially spending time with her husband Steve and their beloved fur babies, Kevin, Elly May, and Sonny.

May this next chapter bring you happiness, relaxation, and time to enjoy all that matters most to you Sue!

DID YOU KNOW?!

Our not-for-profit group purchasing program extends far beyond PPE, wound care, and beds.

Through HANS, members can benefit from nationally negotiated pricing—including with many of the same suppliers and distributors you already purchase from.

Available categories include:
• Medical and nursing supplies (including wound care)
• Housekeeping and infection control
• Laundry, linens, and textiles
• Equipment and accessories
• Maintenance, repair, and operations (MRO) supplies
• Contracted services (e.g., waste, pest control, shredding)

Through our not-for-profit GPO model, we prioritize member value, transparency, and cost recovery—not profit.

This support is fully included in your HANS membership—at no additional cost.
Members who have participated in our complimentary cost analysis have identified meaningful, immediate bottom-line savings—often beyond what is achieved through the rebate-based procurement models they are currently participating in.

To learn more or request a complimentary cost analysis, contact our Procurement Team at: group.purchasing@healthassociation.ns.ca

Get to know the backbone of Health Association Nova Scotia, our Board of Directors! Next up Steven Gaetz

What motivated you to join the HANS Board?

I have worked in Not-for-Profit Social enterprises for over 30 years. One significant area of focus for me has been to work to ‘normalize’ mental health as a part of overall health. Another key focus has been opioid awareness and naloxone distribution. HANS is a natural fit for me and allows me to participate in and assist an organization that has many of the values and mission I respect.

What about HANS’s mission or work resonates most with you?

Healthcare is a priority for everyone these days as it competes for resources. Working to bring excellence and compassion to our health care workers and system is a necessary and rewarding goal.

From your perspective, where does HANS make (or have the potential to make) the greatest impact across Nova Scotia?

Our openness to innovation and change is one of our strengths. The One Person One Record (OPOR) system is a great example. Creating efficiencies and sharing purchasing systems will extend the reach of our resources while building bridges between systems and people resources.

What are your hopes for HANS as the organization continues to grow?

That we continue to serve with compassion and integrity while bringing enhanced outputs and achieving excellence in service to all Nova Scotians.
