Luke Anderson was paralyzed after a mountain biking accident. Following the accident, he quickly realized how the world isn’t built with wheelchair users in mind — what’s just one small step for most people can be a major barrier for someone in a chair.
As he faced these new challenges, Luke grew frustrated. But instead of giving up, he turned that frustration into motivation. With the help of a friend, he started StopGap — a project that helps businesses in Toronto become more accessible. They build simple, portable ramps that can be placed in front of steps, making it easier for people using wheelchairs to get into shops and other public spaces.
Where Luke could’ve stopped at frustration, he built something that’s made a real difference for a lot of people. His story shows that sometimes, all it takes to remove a barrier is a ramp.
