East Coast Greenery

East Coast Greenery Helping people gain reasonable access to medicine that works for them. Curious? Just ask. We can help.

East Coast Greenery was founded in 2016 in response to changes to the MMPR (Marijuana for Medical Purposes Regulations) that were mandated by the federal court. The new ACMPR (Access to Cannabis for Medical Purposes Regulations), which has now been in effect since August 24th 2016, gives patients in the program access to having a personal use production licence. We are dedicated to guiding patient

s through their application process at no cost. Whether that be providing the tools to successfully to talk to their doctor or to put them in contact with a doctor that is compassionate to their situation. The next step is to help design a production area that fits their personal needs and limitations. Patients in the program will have access to special pricing on top brandname indoor and outdoor growing supplies, smoking and vaporizing supplies and accessories, and industry leading extraction machines.

Today we would like to take a moment to say thank you, and good bye (for now), to everyone we have met and assisted these past few years. It's truly been the most rewarding experience, and we will always cherish the relationships that were built in our office.

Due to police intervention it has become necessary for us to cease all operations until further notice. However, a new company that we have great faith in, Herbe, will be taking up where we've left off with all patient processes.

We have arranged for them to honour all ongoing authorizations and licensing processes. They will also continue to assist with any new licensing, education, guidance, and access to smoking and va**ng accessories for medical users, though with no access to medication. They will gladly help you analyze what options are available to you from wherever you choose to source your cannabis. It is very important to everyone involved that there is no disruption in your journey to better health and reasonable access.

We encourage you to stop by and see them.

Thank you for everything.

🌿❤️Love, ECG.

The causes of Crohn’s are not fully understood, but its effects send the body’s immune system into hyperdrive so that it mistakes the microorganisms that naturally populate our guts for ravaging invaders. The chronic inflammation produced by this immunological false alarm can lead to painful thickening and ulceration of the intestines. Other symptoms include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, “urgent need,” and—not surprisingly—fatigue.

There is no cure for Crohn’s. One common treatment, however, is corticosteroids, but they present a smorgasbord of side effects, from minor (hair loss) to potentially life threatening (lowered immune response, elevated blood pressure and blood sugar level).

There Is Growing Evidence That Ma*****na Offers A Better Alternative:

🌿IBD patients who smoke pot report an improved quality of life: A 2011 survey found that a “significant number” of IBD patients already use ma*****na to treat their symptoms and that a majority of them find it “very helpful.” These results were echoed in a pilot study from 2012, which listed benefits including lower levels of pain and depression and an increased sense of overall health.

🌿Science is beginning to side with the smokers: In a first-of-its-kind placebo-controlled study to test the effects of cannabis on Crohn’s disease, published in 2013, ninety percent of smokers experienced “a clinical response.” Forty percent achieved full remission. Smokers also reported “significant increase in quality of life,” including better sleep and appetite.

🌿Cannabis provides all the benefit and little downside: The same 2013 study reported no unpleasant side effects. In fact, the ma*****na even helped wean three subjects from steroid dependency.

🌿Cannabis doesn’t mask Crohn’s symptoms; it treats them: There are lots of cannabis receptors in the brain (which accounts for ma*****na’s effect on mood), but the gut is also dense with receptors that have been well attested to produce an anti-inflammatory effect. The effect, however, is not permanent: It wears off about two weeks after ceasing cannabis intake.

Dr. Henry Granger Piffard, MD (1842-1910), was one of the founders of American dermatology. He was the founding editor of the Journal of Cutaneous and Venereal Diseases, known by its current name, JAMA Dermatology. The first textbook of dermatologic therapeutics was also written by Piffard. In it he notes, “a pill of cannabis indica at bedtime has at my hands sometimes afforded relief to the intolerable itching of eczema.” Since then, there have been myriad studies published on the potential benefits of cannabinoids in skin conditions.

Cannabinoids have a powerful anti-itch effect. Receptors in the skin interact with cannabinoids reducing the symptoms and appearance of Atopic dermatitis (AD). These effects happen through a constellation of interactions between cannabinoids and our endocannabinoid system.

Cannabinoids hold promise as a treatment for management of Staphylococcus aureus colonization. Their antimicrobial characteristics have been referenced since the 1980s, but a more detailed analysis of individual cannabinoids found that all five major cannabinoids showed potent activity against a variety of S. aureus strains.

Cannabinoids also exhibit anti-inflammatory properties. Researchers demonstrated that topical THC suppresses allergic contact dermatitis in mice by activating CB1 receptors. Other molecules, similar to those present in cannabis, have also demonstrated significant anti-pain properties in rat models.

There are reports of direct improvement of AD with topical cannabinoids. A recent study demonstrated that a molecule interacting with the endocannabinoid system inhibited mast cell activation. Mast cells are immune cells that release histamine when activated, which leads to intense itching and inflammation.

In a human trial for patients with AD, a cannabinoid cream improved severity of itch and loss of sleep by an average of 60% among subjects. 20% of subjects were able to stop their topical immunomodulators, 38% ceased using their oral antihistamines, and 33.6% no longer felt the need to use topical steroids by the end of the study.

If you find yourself ready to roll but are without a grinder there is no "real wrong" way to grind; Break out the nail scissors, the mortar and pestle or get ready to pull apart the flower with your fingers, whatever you need to do. However, if you are not in a dire situation and have all of your tools available there are a few tips you should be aware of so you can get the best grind possible.

BEST PRACTICES: Use a grinder rather than your fingers because you'll get the most out your cannabis that way. When it comes to choosing a grinder you have several options: They are typically made of metal, wood or acrylic. They come with 1, 2, 3 or 4 chambers and may or may not have magnets to help keep the lid on.

DON'T OVERFILL: Grinders work best when you don't overfill them. Start with a couple of small chunks of dried flower, add more as needed. You want the finished product to be ground finely enough that hot air (if you're va**ng) or flames (if you're smoking) pass through freely and to prevent clogs in pipes. When you find there is no more resistance while twisting the separate parts of the grinder, that's when you know you've ground your herb finely enough.

DON'T PUT BUD IN THE CENTRE OF THE GRINDER: It prevents the magnets from connecting and holding the lid down. You can definitely cry over spilt bud, especially if it's been ground up already!

TURN IT UPSIDE DOWN: If you're looking for a very fine grind (for cooking with or va**ng for example) flip your grinder upside down. Doing so prevents the bud from falling through to the storage chamber, keeping it in contact with the teeth for a longer period of time.

KEEP IT CLEAN: The freezing method requires very low effort. Simply take apart your grinder, put it in a large freezer bag and pop it in the freezer for about an hour. When all the plant matter is frozen it comes off easily by tapping the part onto some paper towel or your rolling tray. Keeping your grinder clean will keep the teeth sharp and extend its lifespan overall plus, your w**d will taste better.

Lupus is an autoimmune disease which attacks healthy body tissues. It’s usually managed with corticosteroids and NSAIDs, which can all cause numerous side effects with long-term use. Fortunately, a large body of evidence shows that cannabis may prove to be a good treatment option for lupus. It makes sense: The most common symptoms that patients with lupus have to deal with are inflammation and pain, and cannabis is known for being especially effective at fighting both.

The first and the most logical pathway is by relieving inflammation: Active compounds from cannabis have been found to stimulate the increase of anti-inflammatory proteins (interleukin-10) while inhibiting inflammatory proteins (interleukin-2). A growing body of evidence shows cannabinoids may also inhibit interleukin-6, an inflammatory protein associated with autoimmune diseases. Interleukin-6 suppression can decrease tissue injury and inhibiting this protein is shown to relieve inflammation and tissue damage in several diseases, including lupus.

The second reason why cannabis might be good for lupus is in the way it plays with a system that maintains cellular balance in the body, known as the endocannabinoid system (ECS). Humans and other mammals produce compounds called endocannabinoids (which are similar to active compounds found in cannabis—cannabinoids).
When endocannabinoids get synthesized in the body, they bind to specific receptors and aid in regulating many physiological processes. The endocannabinoid system is involved in regulating the immune system through its immunomodulatory properties.

Cannabinoids suppress the inflammatory response. This property of cannabinoids is mediated through multiple pathways. Cannabinoids have been tested in several experimental models of autoimmune disorders and have been shown to protect the host from developing a disease by opening up anti-inflammatory pathways.

TDLR: Compounds found in cannabis suppress the inflammation in the body while relieving pain. This may help keep lupus symptoms under control.

🌱Why Does Cannabis Make Me Cough and How Do I Stop It?
🌿Incessant coughing means that your lungs are reacting to an irritant. Is smoking cannabis causing long-term damage to your lungs? Probably not. At least when it comes to the potential of lung cancer. A landmark 2006 UCLA study conducted by Donald Tashkin, a pulmonologist who has studied cannabis for 30 years, found no connection between cannabis use and lung cancer, even with heavy use. “We hypothesized that there would be a positive association between cannabis use and lung cancer, and that the association would be more positive with heavier use,” Tashkin said. “What we found instead was no association at all, and even a suggestion of some protective effect.” Tashkin’s research suggests that the coughing fits are a short-term issue that does not appear to have lasting health impact.
🍃Here are some ways to improve the experience:
🌲Stop Smoking: Wait, don’t stop reading! Edible cannabis is an option if you just can’t handle the coughing. Effects come on slower but last longer, and your lungs will get a breather. You will also have more control of dosage with properly labeled products.
🌳Take Smaller Hits: When you cough, your lungs are telling you to back off. Your lungs can only take so much smoke at one time. Don’t worry: You will still get your dose of THC. It will just be a slower, milder and more enjoyable experience.
☘Don’t Hold the Smoke: Some smokers feel that holding the smoke in will intensify the effect. Wrong. This just damages your lungs. The tars present in the combusted plant matter absorb at a slower rate than cannabinoids, so all this does is allows the tar to irritate your lungs.
💨Try Va**ng: Vaporizers do not combust the plant material, instead gently warm it to a temperature that creates water vapour. It’s a lot easier on your lungs. Some people also cough when using vaporizers. Once again, try smaller tokes.
💚Pick the Right Strain: Some strains of cannabis are great bronchodilators. These can help open up your airways, reduce coughing/lung irritation and be useful for those suffering with asthma.

🌱Israeli researchers have found compelling evidence that medical cannabis is an effective therapy for children on the autism spectrum. In this soon-to-be-published study in the journal Neurology, researchers treated autistic children with high concentrations of CBD. Conditions in 80% of the children improved. Alternatively, the children had not shown improvement with conventional drug therapies.

🌿Director of Pediatric Neurology at Jerusalem’s Shaare Zedek Hospital, Dr. Adi Aran, treated the 60 children with a non-psychoactive high-CBD cannabis oil (20% CBD and 1% THC) for 7 months.
🍃Parents answered assessment questionnaires to characterize their child’s condition. Here’s what they reported:
💚80% of parents noted a decrease in problematic behaviors, with 62% reporting significant improvements.
💚Half of the children had improved communication.
💚40% reported significant decreases in anxiety.(Note: one-third of the study participants began the study with no anxiety.)
🌲Just as Israel is a pioneer in medical cannabis research, Aran is a pioneer in cannabinoid therapy for autism. Aran originally began a 2017 project to test 120 autistic children. It was the first study of its kind worldwide.
🌳Autism spectrum disorders are neurodevelopmental, often appearing in infancy or early childhood. Severe cases have debilitating symptoms including compulsive, repetitive behaviors and impaired social skills and communication. Some children cannot speak at all.
🌱The causes of autism are not understood and there is no cure. In April 2018, the CDC updated its autism prevalence estimates to 1 in 59 children, up from 1 in 166 children in 2004. Traditionally antipsychotic medications are prescribed, which have harmful side effects. Many children do not respond to these medications.
🌿New York University (NYU) neurologist Dr. Orrin Devinsky, is now conducting two studies on CBD effects on children aged 5 to 18 with moderate to severe autism. The only other doctor who is currently doing studies like this is Aran.

🌱There are a few differences between inhaling cannabis and eating edibles. Typically, edibles can feel stronger than smoked or vaporized cannabis. This phenomenon occurs due to THC being metabolized by the liver, which converts it into 11-hydroxy-THC. The active metabolite is effective in crossing the blood to brain barrier, which can result in a more intense effect.

🌿Inhaled THC goes through a different metabolic process. Rather than traveling through the liver and stomach, the THC goes directly to the brain. This results in the effects being felt exponentially faster, but the feeling will diminish more rapidly than that of edibles.

🍃When eating cannabis edibles, it is recommended to start with a low dose, and be patient. They can take anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 hours to kick in, and the effects can last 4 to 8 hours. The effects will vary between edibles, but it is generally reported that large doses will result in both a stronger body and cerebral high. To avoid an overwhelming or unpleasant experience it is important to understand personal tolerances, and product content.

🌲Edibles may feel stronger, but compared to smoking cannabis it actually delivers a smaller dose of cannabinoids to the blood stream. Eating edibles introduces 10-20 % of THC and other cannabinoids to the blood stream, where as inhaled cannabis will be closer to 50-60 %. Smoking cannabis will have effects in as little as 10 minutes, and will quickly dissipate over the next hour.

💚Both consumption methods have a variety of uses for different ailments and illnesses. Speaking to a cannabis professional, consulting a physician and doing your own research can all go a long way in finding what treatment method and dosing regimen is right for you.

The lesser known cannabinoids Part Three
🌱🌱🌱Cannabigerol (CBG) is found early in the growth cycle, which can make it difficult to find large quantities. It can be cultivated via h**p and is non-psychoactive.
🌱CBG was one of the cannabinoids tested on the MRSA virus in 2008 and had stronger antibiotic effects than CBN, comparable to CBD.
🌱CBG is mildly anti-fungal. Research as early as 1982 found that isolated CBG is antimicrobial and kills various types of bacteria and fungi.
🌱CBG is good for your skin. It helps prevent reddening of the skin, and it’s been shown to have therapeutic potential for skin conditions like Psoriasis.
🌱Reportedly, CBG is a more potent pain reliever than THC.
🌱In 1998, Korean researchers found CBG effectively slowed the growth of cancerous cells in the mouth.
🌿🌿🌿Tetrahydrocannabivarin (THCv) works in tandem with THC. Studies cite that THCv has about 20% the psychoactive capacity as THC, and recent research has shown that THCV mitigates some of the negative psychoactive impacts of THC.
🌿Research from the UK showed anti-epileptic properties of THCV in rat brains. THCv reduced convulsive “bursts” observed before seizures were induced. When tested on adult rats, THCV significantly reduced seizure incidence.
🌿Strains high in THCV may help mitigate the short-term memory and speech impairment associated with being too high.
🌿Research links THCV and weight loss. A paper published by C4 Laboratories cited evidence that THCV decreased body fat and boosted energy metabolism in mice, even more than CBD.
🍃🍃🍃THCa and CBDa are found in raw cannabis before it’s decarboxylated, and can be eaten as a nutritional supplement or applied topically.
🍃THCa or CBDa cannot be inhaled/smoked because once heated, they convert from an acid to forms slightly more broken down. THCa breaks down into THC, and is not psychoactive until you apply heat.
🍃Dr. William Courtney has spearheaded the raw cannabis movement. In his opinion, cannabis is a dietary necessity and is the ultimate superfood. Raw cannabis has several properties as a nutritional supplement, just to name a few: Anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, improved intestinal function, improved neural function, cancer and pre-cancerous detection.

The lesser known cannabinoids Part Two.
🍃🍃🍃Cannabinol (CBN) is the result of the compound THCa breaking down over time. Leaving dried cannabis exposed to air will produce larger levels of CBN.
🍃Research from the UK found CBN stimulated appetite in rats. During testing, rats treated with CBN ate significantly more than rats treated with other cannabinoids.
🍃CBN was one of the three cannabinoids identified by Italian researchers as being effective against antibiotic resistant MRSA infections.
🍃A study from 2005 found CBN delayed symptom onset in mice with Lou Gehrig’s Disease. Lou Gehrig’s disease is also known as Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). CBN may be effective at easing symptoms of degenerative, motor neural diseases.
🍃Swedish researchers found CBN to be a strong pain reliever. CBN and THC were the only cannabinoids that fought pain by releasing endorphins and relaxing tense blood vessels.
🍃Research found that CBN stopped allergy-related asthma in mice. CBN does this by boosting the immune system and easing inflammation associated with asthma attacks.
🍃Steep Hill Lab says CBN is the most sedative cannabinoid. The cannabis testing and research laboratory stated that a “good dose” of CBN is equivalent to 2.5 – 5mg of pharmaceutical sedative diazepam (Va**um).
🍃CBN is effective at lowering ocular pressure that produces blindness in glaucoma patients. It’s ability to decrease ocular hypertension may also aid the understanding of cannabis’s effect on blood pressure overall.
🌲🌲🌲Delta(8)-THC is less psychoactive than “regular” THC (delta(9)) and may have neuroprotective and anti-anxiety properties.
🌲You might have thought that the familiar delta-9 THC gave you the munchies, but apparently it doesn’t compare to delta(8). An experiment on mice found that delta(8) increased the rodents’ appetite significantly more than delta(9).
🌲In 1995, 8 children with cancer were treated with delta(8)-THC during chemotherapy. While nausea and vomiting were reduced in all cases, delta(8)-THC did not produce any psychoactive response in the children. Their ages were between 2 and 13-years-old.

The lesser known cannabinoids Part One.
🌱🌱🌱Cannabichromene (CBC) is the third most common cannabinoid overall. In some strains, CBC may even take dominance over CBD. CBC is non-psychoactive.
🌱CBC is an effective anti-inflammatory. 2010 research found it’s even more effective combined with THC. This supports the idea that cannabinoids work synergistically (the entourage effect). While scientists have isolated over 100 compounds in the cannabis plant, the best medicine is created when different components work in harmony.
🌱Coupled with THC and other cannabinoids, CBC has shown promise in fighting breast cancer. The anti-tumor effects of CBC alone are not as strong as those of CBD, THC, and CBG, but together they can be a powerful tumor-fighting combo.
🌱Researchers from the University of Mississippi found that mice treated with CBC had more relief from depression than mice treated with other cannabinoids. The amount of success depended on how much CBC they consumed. Mice given 80mg of CBC fared better than mice given 40mgs.
🌱In a review of cannabinoid literature, author Ethan Russo reported that CBC was mildly anti-fungal.
🌱A 2013 study found that CBC may help grow new brain cells. Regardless of age, cells in certain areas of the brain that are responsible for memory and learning, continue to grow through neurogenesis. Diseases like Alzheimer’s occur if the brain stops developing these cells.
🌿🌿🌿Cannabidivarin (CBDv) is a slightly degraded version of CBD. This changes the shape of the molecule in small but significant ways.
🌿CBDv is a strong anticonvulsant. UK’s GW Pharmaceuticals announced a patent for CBDv. The patent will allow GW Pharma to create a CBDv-based anti-epileptic drug. They’re currently undergoing phase 2 trials for the drug.
🌿CBDv may help with stomach or gastrointestinal issues. Scientists from the University of Ontario in a 2013 study found that nauseated behaviour was significantly reduced in rats treated with both CBDv and THCv.
