Belle River District High School (BRDHS) is part of the growing community of Lakeshore, Ontario a region spanning 540 square kilometers (of which approximately 500 square kilometers is rural area) with a population of more than 35,000 residents. The Greater Essex County District School Board serves the southern-most region of Ontario, Canada and consists of sixty elementary schools and sixteen sec
ondary schools. The school has been a strong part of the Belle River and surrounding communities since it was established in 1948. BRDHS has been recognized throughout the years for its outstanding scores on province-wide testing (EQAO) in the areas of math and literacy. BRDHS offers a wide-array of programming to its student clientele, including new Specialist High Skills Major Programs in the areas of: Business, Health and Wellness, The Environment, Information and Communication Technology, and Transportation. The school is a certified Silver Eco-School, with a pending application for Gold certification. Complementing the academic rigor of the school is the schoolβs superior extra-curricular offerings. These offerings include but are not limited to: a full music and band program, a computer science club, the Science Olympiad, the Environmental Club, and Drama Club. A full athletic program is available and recent awards have been earned by our students in the areas of: hockey, volleyball, tennis, track and field and cross country. The academic program is offered across two semesters, with four 75-minute classes per day. University-streamed courses are offered in the areas of: Economics, French, Philosophy, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Calculus, Advanced Functions, Computer Science, Exercise Science, English, World History, Philosophy, and Studies in Literature. Also available to students are Co-operative Education credits (academic credits for career-based work placements in the community) and Dual Credits (college level courses which provide students with both a college credit and high school credit upon completion).
