This Canada Day, CMHA HPE joins many in reflecting—not just celebrating.

For many Indigenous peoples, July 1 is not a day of pride, but of mourning. The legacy of colonialism, residential schools and systemic racism continues to impact mental health and well-being across generations.

At CMHA, we recognize that reconciliation is ongoing. As a network across Ontario, we’re committed to our part in reconciliation. For some of the branches, this could look like partnerships with Indigenous organizations, supporting Indigenous-led mental health initiatives, honoring healing practices and providing cultural awareness training for our staff.

There’s still much to do.
