The Mood Disorders Society of Canada (MDSC) was launched in 2001 to provide people with mood disorders, their families and caregivers a strong, cohesive voice at the national level on issues relating to mental health and mental illness. MDSC has evolved to become one of Canada's best-connected mental health NGOs and aims to improve access to treatment, inform research, shape program development and government policy to improve the quality of life for people affected by mood disorders. The Society fulfills its mandate through an active partnership approach that engages like-minded organizations in the public, private and voluntary sectors. MDSC is engaged on an ongoing basis in a wide range of projects and initiatives designed to support the inclusion of persons with disabling mental illnesses in Canadian society and it has taken a lead proactive role in public policy and program development in many capacities on the national stage.

Our sense of warmth and temperature does more than keep us comfortable, it helps us feel connected to our own bodies.

📣 New research shows that changes in skin temperature can influence how we experience ourselves, shaping emotions, identity, and mental well-being through a direct skin-to-brain connection.

When this system is disrupted, it may affect body awareness in conditions like stroke, eating disorders, depression, or trauma. 💙 Understanding this opens the door to gentler, sensory-based therapies and new ways to support mental health.

Changes in skin temperature play a key role in how strongly we experience our bodies as our own.

Mood Disorders Society of Canada, celebrating its 25th year of providing a strong, cohesive voice at the national level to improve access to treatment, inform research, and shape program development and government policies, is relaunching the National Youth Advisory Council - NYAC, with a renewed focus on community, youth-led advocacy, and systems-level change in mental health.

The relaunch aims to make NYAC more accessible and welcoming to youth from diverse backgrounds, regions, and lived experiences — reinforcing the council’s commitment to equity, collaboration, and respectful engagement. Young people ages 14-29, partners, educators, and community organizations are invited to learn more, get involved, and join the movement.

Letting go can sometimes be an act of self-care. New research suggests that disengaging from goals that are no longer realistic or healthy may actually improve well-being and reduce stress.

Recognizing when to adjust expectations or change direction doesn’t mean giving up, it can mean protecting your mental health and making space for what truly supports you.

A sweeping analysis of 235 studies shows that holding onto impossible goals harms mental and physical wellbeing, increasing stress and lowering life satisfaction.
