Meet Bob 🐾

We’re so excited to welcome Bob, Sonya’s therapy dog, to the Trenton Family Tree Therapy office. He’ll be onsite Mondays to Wednesdays, bringing his calm presence, big heart, and very strong opinions about when petting should stop (spoiler: it shouldn’t).

Bob is a deeply affectionate dog who loves connection and will happily accept all the pats, paw-holds, and attention he can get. If it pauses too soon, you may be met with the eyes—a gentle reminder that he’s still very much in the moment with you.

He also has a comfort item he holds close when things feel big: his teddy or rabbit stuffy (one usually travels with him). It helps him settle and regulate, something we can all relate to in our own ways.

We’re looking forward to the warmth, calm, and connection Bob will bring into the space.

EMDR is an evidence based approach that can be adapted for all ages.

For kids, it often includes play, movement, and imagination-based approaches.
For adults, it may involve memory processing, felt sense, and bilateral stimulation.

At Family Tree Therapy (Quinte West), Sonya and Lindsay (our small but mighty team) offer EMDR and are trained through EMDRIA, adapting the work to meet each person where they are

Stress in kids doesn’t always look like stress 🌿
Children are still learning how to understand and express their inner world. They may not have the words to say “I’m overwhelmed” or “something feels off,” so those feelings often show up through behaviour, physical complaints, or small changes in mood.

What can look like irritability, avoidance, or big reactions to small things is often a child’s way of communicating that something feels hard inside.
When we shift from “What’s wrong?” to “What might they be needing?” we create space for connection, understanding, and support.

✨ Behaviour is communication, especially in kids.
If you’re noticing changes in your child and aren’t sure what they mean, support can help you make sense of what’s underneath.
