As October comes to a close and we get closer to Remembrance Day, we’re honoured to share a project that connects us to both time-honoured craftsmanship and to the history of our great country. 🍁

The Aurora War Memorial, first dedicated in 1925, stands over 73 feet tall. Constructed of Stanstead granite by the McIntosh Granite Co. and featuring the original bronze lantern and the lead-lettered names of the fallen. A true testament to its builders. ⚒️

This year, our cemetery lettering team was honoured to restore and correct several names in true lead lettering. Carefully preserving the techniques and details that make this cenotaph such an extraordinary piece of our shared heritage. 🕊️

Today marked a proud moment for our community as the CN Yardmen Memorial was officially unveiled.

Campbell Monument is deeply proud and honoured to have been part of this project — from the earliest concept sketches in 2017 to the installation of the bronze train '6060' in 2025 on the completed granite memorial. ⚒️🚂

This monument stands as a lasting tribute to those Yardmen, whose creation of a lottery helped fund countless community projects and services — including the construction of the Yardmen Arena. Their efforts provided a place for children and families to gather, play hockey, and enjoy winter sports for many generations. 🧊👨‍👩‍👧‍👦🏒✨

We believe strongly in the power of memorials to tell stories, celebrate service, and connect generations through shared history. 🕊️

🕵️‍♀️ We’re looking for some super sleuths!
This monument has been repaired in the past and is now showing advanced cracking and sugaring. There isn’t much more that can be done to improve its current condition.
A family member has chosen to have the monument completely recreated in granite, matching the original inscription, carvings and sculpted flower designs. 🪨
The challenge? 👀 The verse at the bottom is almost impossible to read (and yes — we even tried the mirror trick! 🪞).
