Gratitude post…

Yesterday Izzy and I went for a bike ride just before the snow blew in. Actually, she rode well into the snowstorm 😂

Along the way we stopped at because Izzy wanted to say hi to Julia and Tyler. We looked at the glass studio and before we left, Tyler gave Izzy a small glass ornament, which she loved.

We rode on, ending at for her hair appointment early and Erica took Izzy and her bike in, wet and a little chilly. We stayed for a few minutes, then instead of waiting, Izzy decided to visit to say hello.

While at the gallery, she showed Shelly her new piece from Tyler, then told Shelly she could borrow it. Eventually, it lead to her offering to showcase it in the gallery. And so, Izzy has loaned the gallery her new Tyler Rock glass piece.

This is why I love my community.

Everywhere we went, Izzy was welcomed, loved, accepted and invited to be her authentic, beautiful self. I am so grateful that my daughter is growing up in a community with artists, entrepreneurs and so many role models to choose from.

Saw this guy playing kazoo and drums on his bike today and it made me so happy!!! Happy enough to play my flute with him for a bit 😂 then into the museum. I find the European museums overwhelming with the volume of artifacts, so I look for one or two things that take my breath away and try to really sit with them. These weren’t them, but they made me laugh.

Well, it's FINALLY DONE!!!!

5 years of Osteopathic Manual Therapy school is finished, through the birth of my son, a sale of the school, a global pandemic, an Olympics in Beijing and a housefire to name a few of the obstacles (nevermind the tests).

Thank you to everyone who helped make this possible. My wife Heather Orton Wholistics for encouraging me to follow my dream (although I'm sure she regretted it on many occasions), her parents Stephen Orton and Maureen Orton for helping so many times to watch the kids and give us meals while I studied, and my parents Laura Bentley and Mike Bentley for always being there to listen when I needed to vent, cheering me on from Fernie.

My teachers Alexandre Freire, Nacho Díaz Cerrato and Jaime Camarasa, you were amazing, as well as Thiago Menon as a sounding board for questions at all hours of the day or night. Also, Edward Paget and Lucy Paget for opening up their clinic space in Nicaragua to me and my family to come down so I could work and learn under them. It was incredible.

I started in massage in 2007 because I wanted to become an OMT thanks to the work of Bonnie Sutter at the UofC. A mere 17 years later...here I am!

Apparently today was the 10 year anniversary of the opening ceremonies of the 2014 Sochi Olympics. Lot has changed in those years. Lost a lot of hair since then 😅

F.Y.I. I often deal with stress with humor.

It's been a long week. I've cried so many tears so many times for so many reasons. But the support the community has shown me and family has brought me to my knees.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you.

Thank you for the messages.

Thank you for checking in.

Thank you for every hug, hand squeeze, and awkward silence you shared with me this week. I don't think I'll ever be the same after this, and I mean that in a good way.

My heart has been split open so many times with gratitude.

I had to explain to my daughter this week that not all tears are sadness. Some are happy, or relief, or gratitude. So now she's asks "are these happy tears?"

And they usually are.

I'm sure there will be grieving over lost items at some point, but we all are safe. My dog is safe (he was in the fire). And we will rebuild.

Finally, thank you so much for the overwhelming support of the gofundme that and set up. It's given me the ability to focus on getting down on the floor with my kids leading into Christmas. To focus on making them feel safe, supported and nurtured. Your generosity has not gone unnoticed and I am beyond grateful for thr space to support.

One day I'll make it up to you. ❤️

Not a great day.

But we're all safe.

Thank you everyone who reached out to see if we're OK, and to our community who dropped everything to help us cope and watch the kids while we figured out our next steps.

We had a fire in the house today. Luckily, we were all out of the house. Even more luckily, we got home in time to get Hobbes out too.

Not sure when we'll be allowed back in to live, staying with family right now

I'm stepping away from social media for a bit. I don't think it's serving me much and it's time to put that energy into other places that need that energy more. Big ❤️

What a whirlwind of a trip! 15 clinical days over 3 weeks. Sleepless nights, laughs, screaming kids, surfing, work, play, it had it all.
