What is a Mesa Carrier?
A Mesa Carrier is a practitioner of Andean shamanism (often Q'ero lineage) who works with a mesa, a sacred, portable altar or medicine bundle containing stones (khuyas), crystals, and symbolic items.
These practitioners are initiated to hold, use, and carry their mesa to facilitate healing, balance, and energy work.
A mesa carrier is considered an "Earthkeeper" or healer in service to the land, people, and spirits, often referred to as a Mesayoq in Quechua.
The mesa is a cloth bundle containing stones and objects that represent the practitionerβs personal power and connection to the spiritual world.
Many learn through the nine rites of the Munay-Ki or through apprenticeships that involve constructing their own mesa.
Being a mesa carrier involves living with integrity, self-awareness, and a commitment to transforming "shadow pieces" into wisdom.
