Let’s chat embodiment.
Your body reacts to both physical and emotional stress in the same way. Often physical stress is easier to navigate - you know exactly what you did to cause the sensation. But emotional stress can be a bit more challenging, a slower buildup of your body responding to the stress so when you finally feel the sensations you may not be fully aware of why they are there.
This is what is happening to me at the moment, yet I understand exactly why because of practicing the exact embodied coaching tools that I teach my clients.
This month has been stressful, with a lot of factors out of my control. My body finally had enough at the 3-week mark and has been screaming at me in pain.
So what do you do when this happens?
Acknowledge the emotion that is present, for me it’s deep hurt, shame and anger.
Acknowledge your part and responsibility, taking action where you need to.
Acknowledge the parts that aren’t your responsibility and surrendering those.
Tuning into the sensation and giving your body what it needs. This is where self-care, boundaries, rest, movement, even medication to break the pain cycle comes in. The goal isn’t to numb but to honour what is needed to heal.
Lastly we need to learn from the situation. What parts of yourself were you ignoring? What self-sabotaging behaviour were you engaging in? What deep seated belief are you holding on to that’s keeping you stuck?
This is the process that I take my coaching clients through. This is the process that I’m currently working through.
Grateful for a weekend without clients, for the magnesium pain cream and meds that are going to help me get through the 7 hours of hands on treatment I have to do today.
