I didn’t realize how burnt out I was until I had a week off.

Stress levels have been consistently high for too many years; I’ve managed, even healed in many ways but this week has taught me I still have a long way to go.

Normally I spend time off doing projects, being creative, doing things that allow me to grow. This week has been the opposite of that. Rest, good food, some gentle movement for my body, lots of laughter with friends. Even after a week I’m not ready, or even motivated to go back to work…

It’s time to reevaluate what’s truly important. What I want to spend my very precious energy on.

How?

The Living Aligned Planner will be my go-to to help keep me focused and accountable. The goal isn’t to be busy, but to focus on the most important things that excite me and propel me forward.

Let’s chat embodiment.

Your body reacts to both physical and emotional stress in the same way. Often physical stress is easier to navigate - you know exactly what you did to cause the sensation. But emotional stress can be a bit more challenging, a slower buildup of your body responding to the stress so when you finally feel the sensations you may not be fully aware of why they are there.

This is what is happening to me at the moment, yet I understand exactly why because of practicing the exact embodied coaching tools that I teach my clients.

This month has been stressful, with a lot of factors out of my control. My body finally had enough at the 3-week mark and has been screaming at me in pain.

So what do you do when this happens?

Acknowledge the emotion that is present, for me it’s deep hurt, shame and anger.

Acknowledge your part and responsibility, taking action where you need to.

Acknowledge the parts that aren’t your responsibility and surrendering those.

Tuning into the sensation and giving your body what it needs. This is where self-care, boundaries, rest, movement, even medication to break the pain cycle comes in. The goal isn’t to numb but to honour what is needed to heal.

Lastly we need to learn from the situation. What parts of yourself were you ignoring? What self-sabotaging behaviour were you engaging in? What deep seated belief are you holding on to that’s keeping you stuck?

This is the process that I take my coaching clients through. This is the process that I’m currently working through.

Grateful for a weekend without clients, for the magnesium pain cream and meds that are going to help me get through the 7 hours of hands on treatment I have to do today.

I woke up already panicked. My eyes haven’t opened fully and I already felt anxious. I know what the day, heck what the week looks like ahead… I did it again, my schedule is jammed and there is absolutely no space. No space for the extra deadlines that I have this week, for my person movement practice, for any relaxing…

Or what seems like no space… because there is space - it’s all about priorities.

So how do I navigate weeks like this when there are multiple days that are 9+ clients and over 12 hour long working days?

✨ this week I say no to anything that isn’t already scheduled.
✨ I look ahead to the next 2 weeks and make sure I block off some time so that I have some breathing room in the near future. This way I know for certain that it’s only 6 days of complete chaos.
✨ I do what I can for movement. 20-30 min, aiming for 4 days is not only ok but enough.
✨ sleep is the priority. Mentally I remind myself that going to bed will be more restful than watching that episode on Netflix.
✨ eating simple meals being grateful to past Halinka who froze leftovers.
✨ accepting help when offered.
✨ asking for help, even though it’s hard.

There are times when you will have to juggle too many things at once. The trick is to not have that be the default setting and to have a strategy in place for when times like this does happen.

Do you struggle with this? Helping people prioritize what’s important and creating a strategy that not only works but is sustainable is a big thing we do in coaching. Interested in how this can work for you? Send me a message.

The start of a new month, an opportunity for reflection, focus and intentionality.

I start each month with 10 minutes of quiet reflection and planning answering these 6 questions from the Living Algined Planner:

✨ what can I celebrate from last month?
✨ how can I improve this month?
✨ what is my focus for this month?
✨ what are my weekly aligned actions?
✨ what are my daily aligned actions?
✨ are there any expected challenges this month?

Spending time reflecting on these questions will allow you decide what’s important, make a plan to achieve your goals, all while honouring where you are and preventing burnout.

Each month (and day) is a clean slate. Start today - it’s never too late to start Living Aligned.
