It is with heavy hearts and deep sorrow that we share the passing of Marilyn Lizee, a proud Métis author, passionate advocate, cherished friend, and former Treasurer of LFMO’s Board, who left us on Friday, March 20, 2026 at the age of 62 years.
Marilyn was a truly beautiful soul whose presence brought light into every room. She carried a vibrant spirit that could be felt the moment she arrived, often matched by her unforgettable, vibrant hair that reflected her boldness and individuality. Her energy was warm, uplifting, and full of life. She had a way of making people feel comfortable, valued, and truly seen.
As an author, Marilyn used her voice to uplift Métis stories, culture, and identity. Her book, Tales My Kookum Told Me, reflected her heart and her lived experience, sharing powerful messages of resilience, belonging, and pride. She was deeply committed to advocacy, speaking up for her community, supporting cultural awareness, and helping others feel connected to their roots. Her work went beyond the page. She inspired conversations, encouraged learning, and created space for voices that deserve to be heard.
Marilyn also shared a longtime and meaningful friendship with LFMO President Melanie Omeniho, a bond rooted in trust, laughter, and years of standing side by side in service to community. That connection speaks so clearly to the kind of person she was, loyal, caring, and deeply genuine. During her time as Treasurer, Marilyn gave her time and energy with quiet dedication and integrity. She believed in community and in lifting others up, and she did so with humility and care.
She will be deeply missed by her family, her friends, and everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. It is clear she was surrounded by people who loved her and will carry her memory forward with pride. Marilyn’s light does not fade. It lives on in her stories, in her advocacy, and in the many lives she touched. Rest peacefully, Marilyn. You will always be remembered and forever missed.
