My daughter always wore and danced powwow with a kokum scarf, this one in her photo from a few years ago was her favourite one, and she danced with it from when she was five years old. This kokum scarf was the one used to wrap her tiny baby in and keep her safe and know she was loved. This is why each kokum scarf will be blessed and prayed over and included in each project.

Our First Grief and Loss Meeting was completed with 8 attendees and 4 various age children blessing the space.
We were late due to some travellers but everything worked out fine. Sacred Fire was started at 6:30 PM and we shared a healing hearty soul meal. Baked Spaghetti and Garlic Bread, with lots of platters to snack on. Healing starts with feeding the body. We had a firekeeper that tended the fire all the way through the evening. Tears and words and sharing were all done with ceremony, as well as a talking stick being used. Everyone having their turn to share or choose not to share, was ok. cause sometimes you just need the comfort of people around, or to hear how others are processing to understand in words your own journey.
Things we learned were
1. To thank people who support you.
2. Forgiveness - sometimes people need to hear the words
3. Sometimes healing is as simple as a drive
4. Some grief you never recover from you only learn to live with
5. Grief and loss isnt always just tears and sadness, its laughter and our mini-achievements on our journey in life.
6. Night times are the hardest
7. Memories give us comfort
8. Someday we just go through the motions just to get through the day
9. Self care is important
10 Staying connected is most important

Next meeting will be Wednesday November 2, 2022 at 7PM. Contact to attend.

I am a trained indigenous doula and have been blessed to witness many births and new little people welcomed into the world. I would like to continue the work and to make myself available to those facing my daughters situation. In Kansas they have a program called Birthwaves. "BirthWaves is a non-profit organization that provides doula services to families who experience pregnancy and infant losses. We are not doctors, nurses or counselors. We are trained and certified agency of doulas who are specialized in offering bereavement support to families of babies and small children.". I would like the begin this service as well to our area, as i am hearing so many stories of going through these experiences with no support. I would like to be someone that can help out in any capacity during such a difficult time, in any way i can.

There was over 3000 stillborn deaths in Canada last year and over 1000 infant deaths. Still rarely talked about yet so many women have an experience or know someone who went through this experience, we must do better. Being a trained indigenous doula and attending births, it was my biggest fear was losing a baby and now i have experienced it. The mother needs so much care and tending during that time, and post-natal care and so much not talked about.

Project details: The Sahkitin Bundles: The Adalyne Stone Project, are for miscarriages, stillborn's and infant deaths of Indigenous Mothers especially. To prepare bundles for hospitals to use with indigenous mothers, to aid in the process of losing their baby and maintaining culture to ease the pain of the process. We face not being able to smudge and follow our ways, with these bundles everything can be prepared following our protocols and smudged and prayed over prior to use. They will be sealed and ready to be opened once its time to use the bundle. There shouldn't be a need to worry more about the unexpected and sudden loss of a child and not being prepared or how to proceed during the most difficult time.
Donations:
Tiny Moccasins
Kokum Scarves

Donations: I am looking for donations of "Kokum" (Grandmother) scarves for the project, as one will be included in each bundle. Larger scarves will be used in the sewing portions of the project, eg. placenta bag, lining of the moss bag, outfits.
