Family:
When I took this photograph of three of my children decades ago, I asked them to stare right into the camera, lens and look serious. They did a great job… They not only looked serious, but super intense.
Now these children are adults in their mid to late 40s. They are still very focused people… Each with their own energy. There is something deeply awesome and almost mysterious in the evolution of each of us and our children. What we and they might have chosen to be at three years old, and then at 10 years old , and then as teenagers, and then as young adults, and then as middle-aged people almost seems like experiencing a series of unpredictable of events. Oh yes, some situations we might have been able to predict… but there are and have been so many surprises.
Samahria and I would sometimes say to ourselves, here we go again, and hang in there for the next ride of our lives.
Everyone chooses their way… Us and you and all of our children, if we have children.
Even if we take the suggestions of others, that is our choice and that is still our way.

PS: When I was young and received guidance from my parents, teachers and other folks, and they might say it’s time to turn right… I would often want to explore what would happen if I turned to the left. The road least traveled. Samahria and I have been living that way together all of our adult lives
