Thank you to all the veterans. Your sacrifices and service do not go unappreciated.
Many have sacrificed more of themselves than anyone knows. I see you and I thank you.

National PTSD Awareness Day

Post-traumatic stress can affect anyone. It does not matter if you wear a uniform or not.

For firefighters, the mental impact of the job can build over time. Behind the firetrucks and uniforms are people who carry the weight of what they have seen and experienced. A national study found that 21 percent of Canadian firefighters show signs of clinical insomnia, a condition closely linked to PTSD, depression, and anxiety.

Another report from Canadian firefighters shows that while peer support and resiliency programs are helping, many still face barriers to getting the help they need. Stigma and limited access to resources remain major challenges.

We are proud to serve this city. We are also committed to looking out for each other and encouraging open conversations about mental health. That commitment extends beyond our halls. PTSD and other mental health challenges touch families, workplaces, and communities across Calgary.

You are not alone. We carry the weight together.
