Ever catch a smell that instantly takes you somewhere else?

Not just a place
A time

A classroom
A summer night
Or even a person you haven’t thought about in years

Sometimes it’s something as simple as a cologne or perfume
And suddenly you’re right back there
Remembering exactly how that person made you feel

That’s not just nostalgia

Your sense of smell is the only sense that has a direct pathway to the brain’s emotional and memory centres
(specifically the amygdala and hippocampus)

Most other senses get “filtered” first
Smell doesn’t

So when you encounter a scent
it skips the usual processing
and goes straight to the part of your brain that stores emotion and memory

That’s why it feels so immediate
So vivid
And sometimes overwhelming

It doesn’t just help you remember
It helps you feel it again

Not just remembering
Re-experiencing

And maybe that’s why we hold onto certain scents…
Because they take us back
to a time when things felt a little simpler

You don’t need to agree on everything to have a strong relationship.

In fact, you won’t.

What matters more is alignment!

Shared values. Shared direction. A willingness to keep moving forward together even when you see things differently.

That’s what builds real closeness.

Most people think focus is something you either have… or don’t.

But focus is a skill your brain can learn.

Level Up Neurocognitive Therapy is a neurofeedback-based training program for children, teens, and adults that helps improve attention, emotional regulation, and impulse control.

Here’s how it works:

Your brain produces different types of electrical patterns called brainwaves — some are associated with focus and attention, while others are linked to daydreaming or inattention.

Using the BodyWave armband, we measure these brainwaves in real time while you’re engaged in simple tasks.

The program provides immediate feedback, helping your brain learn to:
✔ Increase brainwave patterns linked to focus
✔ Decrease patterns associated with distraction
✔ Improve overall self-regulation

Over time, this can lead to better attention, stronger executive functioning, and improved day-to-day performance at school, work, and home.

It’s not about trying harder.
It’s about training your brain to work more efficiently.

A word worth knowing: Insouciant

(in-soo-see-uhnt)

To be insouciant is to be carefree, lighthearted, and not weighed down by things that do not truly matter.

That doesn’t mean ignoring problems.
It doesn’t mean dismissing emotions.

It means learning one of the most important mental health skills there is:

Choosing what deserves space in your mind.

Not every worry deserves your energy.
Not every thought deserves your attention.
Not every opinion deserves your concern.

Over time, psychological resilience often looks like this:

The ability to hold life a little more lightly.

To breathe.

To let small things pass.

To focus your energy on what actually matters.

✨ A gentle reflection for today:
What is one small thing you could be a little more insouciant about?

Save this as a reminder for the next time your mind starts carrying more than it needs to.

Twice-exceptional learners are often the most misunderstood students in a classroom.

Their strengths can hide their struggles.
Their struggles can hide their strengths.

Understanding both is what allows the right support to happen.

Sometimes the body enforces the boundaries the mind ignores.

When we push through exhaustion, stress, and overwhelm without rest, our bodies eventually push back — through illness, burnout, or complete shutdown.

Rest isn’t a luxury. It’s maintenance.

Take the pause before your body forces one.

Why do you say “autistic person” instead of “person with autism”?

Most of us were taught to defend our beliefs and opinions. But growth often requires letting some of them go.

In psychology, we see this all the time.
New research reshapes how we understand learning, behaviour, attention, and development. What we believed about ADHD, dyslexia, autism, and behaviour 20 years ago looks very different today.

And that’s a good thing.

Being willing to rethink what we know is not a weakness. It’s how progress happens.

The ideas that fit us today may not fit us tomorrow. And that openness is what allows us to keep learning.
