My 40th birthday has common gone! And I was reminded several times that it’s” a big one” 🤣 Oddly enough, I don’t feel old at all. But there has been something looming over me. I feel like finally (maybe) I should become an adult and take this whole adulting thing seriously! Retirement planning? Being the “responsible adult” in the room? 😬….fake it till you make it…right??!! I’ve figured out WHAT I want to be when I grow up. Now I have to figure out WHO I want to be!
The time and effort I put into self improvement between 40 to 60 is going to greatly impact how I feel (and how I move) 60+. I want to take care of her and have her enjoy everything she’s worked hard for. I’m reflecting back on everything I put my body through in that first 40 years. It’s been through some sh$t and stuck with me! So here’s my “to-do list” as I hit 40:
1. Add strength and cardio. Research shows this helps with perimenopause symptoms and is important for bone density. I’m a Yogi but balance is key in life! My dirty secret? I hate cardio!!!!! DM me if you have any creative ways to add this into my routine.
2. Getting on top of my nutrition. We’re entering a new stage as a family. The kids have joined plenty of sports and meals are often eaten in the car! I need healthy, fast ideas!
3. I never saw this one coming! Volunteering for a mammogram! But did you know the cancer rates in Canada are 2 in 5?!? women can now self refer for a mammogram at 40.
4. Checking on my hormone levels. Well not necessary for everyone when they hit 40. I’ve been on a roller coaster since having my kids. Perimenopause starts much earlier than many expect. We need to advocate for ourselves! It’s often overlooked. I’ve brought this up recently with my own MD and they changed the subject… twice. Well many MDs are wonderful a Naturopath can also help guide you. Any local recommendations?
5. Self love. I’m getting smile lines!….Not wrinkles!… I’m calling them “Smile lines” and I’m gonna wear them as a badge of honour and keep smiling! I have a lot to be thankful for and I’m gonna start reflecting on this daily.
Anything I missed? Any advice from those who’ve hit this milestone?
