“An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure” isn’t that how the saying goes?

Let’s welcome in this cold and flu season using complimentary medicine, such as Acupuncture, to support and even bolster the immune system before illness occurs.

Historically one concept that was embedded in Chinese Medicine was to praise and compensate the doctor when health was maintained rather than when disease occurred. The belief was “To cure disease is like waiting until one is thirsty before digging a well”. Thus, when we work to support health we help prevent disease.

Chinese Medicine recognizes an external pathogen invading the body when illness occurs. The protective Qi of the body, like a little army, mounts an attack to dispel this pathogen. The quality of this protective Qi, and the strength of our Lung Qi which supports it, will determine how successful this army will be and how long it takes to recover.

With this philosophy in mind it would reason that being proactive and supporting this qi, ensuring that our own armies are prepared and fortified, is one of the best ways to support the bodies ability to fight. Acupuncture can activate, support, and help restore the immune system.

These days it is not a matter of if, but when, an infection will occur for us.

Our health and our focus on what recovery looks like have become relevant to us all.

The question of how to care for ourselves after a viral infection is far more relevant and prominent today.

Today is the day I open up Registration for my next session of Pilates Classes!

If you are looking for dynamic movement that incorporates both strength and mobility then Pilates is an excellent choice. It is also highly accessible to all fitness levels and many physical limitations or injuries.

I am going to be running a 12 week class session beginning January 5th and running until April 2nd.

On Wednesday’s join me for

* 5pm Pilates with Props
This is an intermediate level class with the addition of props to increase challenge and range of movement.

* 6pm Foundation Mat Pilates
This is the best class for beginners or those with physical limitations or injuries. This is the ground floor for creating better movement, mobility, strength, and connection in the body.

On Saturday’s join me for

* 9am Fun & Fit Pilates
I’m incorporating higher intensity and cardio warm ups with multi-level Pilates exercises and a deep stretch cool down. This class will build you up, get you sweating, challenged, and loving every minute of it. Accessible to all fitness levels but please connect if you have specific injuries.

* 10am Restorative Yogalates
Rehab based Pilates exercises to mobilize joints and build strength and awareness combine with restorative yoga postures to create an experience of connection and release. Unwind from the week, calm the nervous system, release stress and physical holding patterns, find bliss.

~ Each class is 50 minutes long
~ Classes will be held at the Lion’s Den behind the Lighthouse Community Centre in bowser
~ Space is limited and participants will be able to socially distance
~ A vaccination confirmation is required to attend
~ Masks must be worn into and out of the building

Cost is based on how many classes per week you want to attend
Once a week $162
Twice a week $288
Three times a week $360
Drop In $15, space permitting

The Path of Connection

I am a Pilates & Yoga instructor as well as local Acupuncturist in the Comox Valley. I teach at multiple locations on Vancouver Island and offer a selection of registered class series and workshops. Trained in Victoria, BC, I have been teaching for over 5 years. I offer classes that focus on connection, mobility, strength, balance, and proprioception. In Pilates we use core integration to connect the body from the deepest layer outward. In yoga we use physical movement and breathe connection to guide our mind and body towards balance.
