Jan 1 2024 LDM Counselling will be relocating to a new office. On the second floor of the Giaschi Building at 29 Manitoba Street down town Bracebridge. Ample parking is located behind the building (Behind the Royal Bank) or on the main street. Looking forward to starting the New Year in our more spacious and comfortable office.

Doing a daily check-in can be helpful to better understand how you are doing emotionally. When we are more aware of our our feelings then we can chose different activities, coping skills or people to rely on to help improve our situation and thus our mood.

Are you or your family member a Nurse, Doctor, EMS, Police, Fire or Corrections? First responders are among the highest ranking workers to experience workplace trauma and burnout. Workplace trauma occurs when employees experience a trauma at work. This can be a one-time traumatic event, like a workplace accident. Or, it could be ongoing stressful events. In fact, first responders are at least twice as likely to suffer from PTSD because of the traumatic events they often deal with. Being affected by these types of events is normal. However, if thoughts of these events start to seriously affect a first responder long after the event, they could be experiencing PTSD .

Obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) is a type of anxiety disorder characterized by intrusive and frequent obsessions and repetitive and ritualistic behaviours.
It affects about 1-2% of the population.
Obsessions are unwanted and disturbing thoughts, images, or impulses that suddenly pop into the mind and cause a great deal of anxiety or distress.
Compulsions are deliberate behaviours or mental acts that are carried out to reduce the anxiety caused by the obsessions. They could include but are not limited to :
✅Checking- Checking something like a door or a stove many times, Repeatedly checking for mistakes or redoing tasks if they are not “just so”
✅Ordering- Ordering, arranging or organizing things in a certain or particular way all the time
✅ Washing- Spending hours excessively cleaning or disinfecting the house, having to do a washing, cleaning or grooming ritual in a certain way all the time
✅Counting/Touching- Counting to a certain number or doing things a certain number of times, or touching objects in a particular way
✅ Mental Rituals- Avoiding anything to do with an unlucky number or word, mentally saying a prayer or thinking of an image every time you have a bad thought
✅ Need to Confess- Confessing a bad thought like pushing someone into traffic or a sexual thought to friends or family and requesting constant reassurance that you’re not a bad person.
