5 effective stress and anxiety relievers

1. Sometimes we can get caught up in life that we forget to take time for ourselves scheduling an hour out of your day to do an activity you enjoy or spending time with people you care about can instant up life your mood
2. Taking 5 minutes of your day to focus on Diaphragmatic breathing (deep breaths) counter the effects of stress by slowing down our heart rates releasing held tension and lowering blood pressure
3. Exercise in any form whether it be running, walking, yoga or weight lifting helps to reverse the effects of stress by releasing “feel good” hormones into the body
4. Music has been known to be very calming and soothing so creating a playlist of songs that relax and clam you down can be a good and effective way to reduce stress and anxiety
5. Taking a few minutes everyday to clear your mind. Meditation can help to wipe away stress associated with your day and bring you inner peace and calmness

Im sure everyone at some point in their life has experienced not only the emotional but the physiological effects that stress can put on the body. You can feel your heart rate increase, and muscles tense up all over. Stress whether it’s real or perceived alters our bodies ability to remain in homeostasis. If this stress stays unresolved the long term effects it can have on our bodies can be quite adverse. Some examples can include weight gain, headaches, high blood pressure, and becoming immunocompromised.

Studies have shown that regular massage can be beneficial in reducing the feelings of stress and anxiety. Massage stimulates the production and release of “feel good” or “happy” hormones which are endorphins, Serototin, and dopamine. Decreases the release of cortisol which is the hormone responsible for our “flight or fight” response. High levels of cortisol in the body are what increase feelings of stress depression and anxiety.
