National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, observed on September 30, is crucial for acknowledging the painful history and legacy of residential schools in Canada. This day serves as a reminder of the ongoing impacts of colonization on Indigenous communities and emphasizes the importance of truth-telling, healing, and reconciliation. It encourages individuals and organizations to engage in meaningful reflection, education, and action towards reconciliation with Indigenous peoples.

In recognition of this day, we honor the survivors, their families, and the children who never returned home, fostering a collective commitment to building a more inclusive and equitable future for all Canadians.

A statement released by the Ontario AIDS Network:

“The Ontario AIDS Network is saddened to learn about the closure of one of our members, the AIDS Committee of Toronto.

As Canada’s first AIDS Service Organization (A*O), ACT has been a pillar of support for people living with HIV for decades. We want to send out gratitude to the staff, volunteers and leaders who dedicated themselves to this work.

While we process the significance of this moment, it is important that this closure not be misinterpreted as a sign that HIV is no longer an issue.”
