Congratulations, Dr Dani! 👏🥳 Contents of the article are below 🤓

The WFC is pleased to announce that Dr Danielle Wiesner has been appointed to the World Health Organization (WHO) World Rehabilitation Alliance (WRA) Advocacy and Communications Taskforce.

The World Rehabilitation Alliance is a WHO-led global network whose mission is to support the implementation of the Rehabilitation 2030 Initiative through advocacy activities. The Advocacy and Communications Taskforce supports global awareness, policy engagement, and strategic messaging to elevate rehabilitation as an essential health service that is integral to Universal Health Coverage and to the realization of Sustainable Development Goal 3.

Low back pain remains the leading cause of disability worldwide, contributing significantly to reduced quality of life, lost productivity, and increased healthcare burden. As the prevalence of spinal conditions continues to rise globally, rehabilitation plays a critical role in preventing disability, restoring function, and supporting long-term spinal health across the lifespan.

Dr Wiesner’s appointment reflects her leadership in global health advocacy and her commitment to advancing evidence-informed rehabilitation and spinal health initiatives. In her role on the taskforce, she will contribute to shaping advocacy priorities and communication strategies that emphasize the importance of rehabilitation in addressing conditions such as low back pain and other musculoskeletal disorders.

The WFC congratulates Dr Wiesner on this appointment and looks forward to her continued contributions to global rehabilitation and spinal health initiatives in collaboration with the World Health Organization.

Laser therapy is one of the tools we use at Epic to support healing — especially in the early stages of rehab ✨

Here’s what most people are surprised by:
✔️ You don’t really feel anything
✔️ Treatment takes ~5–6 minutes
✔️ It’s painless and non-invasive
✔️ No downtime afterward

So what does it do?

Low-level laser therapy helps:

• Improve circulation
• Support tissue repair
• Reduce inflammation
• Promote cellular energy (ATP production)

All of this creates a better environment for healing, particularly when pain or irritation is limiting how much you can move early on.

BUT this doesn’t replace exercise 😉 It's one piece of the puzzle.

We use it alongside:

✔️ Progressive movement
✔️ Strength work
✔️ Soft tissue work
✔️ Biomechanical education

Because real recovery isn’t about one “magic” tool — it’s about the right combination, at the right time, for the right person.

Why concussions can affect women differently 🧠

Research shows that, on average, women may be more likely to experience prolonged symptoms after a concussion. Here’s why:

✨ Hormones
Progesterone has neuroprotective effects, but it fluctuates throughout the menstrual cycle. A concussion during certain phases (especially the luteal phase) may lead to a sudden hormone drop, increasing inflammation and slowing recovery.

💪 Neck Strength
Women generally have less neck strength than men, which can lead to greater head movement on impact — meaning more force on the brain.

🧬 Brain & Axonal Structure
Some studies suggest differences in axonal structure and density, which may make nerve fibers more vulnerable to stretching and shearing forces.

🗣️ Symptom Reporting
Women are more likely to report symptoms and seek care, leading to better documentation — but this alone doesn’t fully explain the recovery differences.

💡 The Good News
Personalized concussion care makes a huge difference (earlier is better , but it's never too late). With the right rehab, lifestyle support, and treatment plan, recovery can be faster and more complete.

If you’ve had a head injury and something doesn’t feel right, don’t ignore it. Use the link in bio to book!

Dr Mel chooses to call it SnowApalooza because it just sounds so much more positive than Snowmagedon! ❄️ ☃️

I wish I had caught her reaction after the first round of this drill — she was so excited! 👐

When a muscle won’t fire properly, more reps usually isn’t the answer. Better input → better mapping → better movement. 🧠

Effective rehab means knowing when to change the strategy, not just repeat the exercise.

Lindsay and this patient have been working together for a few months now. This is not typically an exercise for early rehab!
