How can you be a support pillar to those experiencing hearing loss around you? Here are some tips:
1. Encourage treatment. If they feel comfortable discussing their hearing issues with you, take a step further and offer accompanying them to their hearing assessment and regular check-ins.
2. Be patient, especially as they learn about their hearing loss and how to manage it. If they get hearing aids, help them experiment with the settings in different environments. It can be a fun exercise!
3. Educate yourself! The more you know, the better you and your loved ones can navigate their hearing journey.

Full disclosure - I stole this idea! I was driving in Fort Erie a couple weeks ago and my daughter and I saw an ad from a realtor with a similar message on a billboard. It was so clever we couldn't stop thinking about it and absolutely needed to use it. Not only because it's so memorable, but also because it rings true to the field of audiology.

And what I mean is this: To be successful with hearing aids, the most important thing is your hearing care provider. Sure, there are different features in different hearing aid technology, but ultimately how your provider helps you select the devices that are best for YOU, and coaches you to get the most out of those devices, as well as about communication strategies and other tools beyond the hearing aids, is really what determines a successful hearing aid user.

So if anyone recognizes that realtor, give him a shout out for me (we tried to take a pic but it was too blurry to read) and remember that if you call us, we take pride in creating successful communicators!
