Salads for Spring
Early Spring, when the world outside thaws and so do our bodies, our muscles begin to release open and we celebrate the awesome process of nature's rebirth.
According to ayurveda spring is considered the kapha season. Consumption of kapha provoking foods like cold beverages and dairy products should be avoided.
Ayurveda suggests to add more of bitter, pungent and astringent tastes into our diets. This is the best time of the year to enjoy salads. Raw radishes, carrots, asparagus, artichokes, beats, lettuce, arugula, Broccoli, celery revitalizing bitter greens, young sprouts and other lighter proteins prevent the body from seasonal allergies.
Adding the detoxicants like fresh cilantro & parsley along with the pungent herbs like turmeric, ginger and fennel to our meal aid in cleansing the digestive tract, reduce the formation of mucus in the respiratory tract, clear the liver congestion and relieve the feeling of sluggishness.
