In what ways can you be yourself within your “roles “?

And thus enjoy these “roles”? 😃

What roles do you often have to be in ?
And are masking /hiding your true self.

Here’s some I hear of often….
➰ daughter, son, child
➰ partner, wife, husband etc
➰ parent, mother, father, grandparent etc
➰ employee
➰ friend in a group that no longer resonates.

I’ve always been a highly sensitive person and I think quite quirky and funny.

But masking who I am - was demanded of me by so many experiences in life; by….

➰Education system
➰Parents/culture/“mainstream” society
➰Immigrating from Kenya to Canada (and the culture here)
➰Getting married and the expected roles of a “wife and daughter in law”.
➰Becoming a mother who looked like she has her sh*t together, but really didn’t.

But one hits a point in life where masking just becomes less possible. For me it feels the call to un-mask becomes extra strong in perimenopause

🌱 As I work with plant medicines more, connect to ancestors more and listen - this is one of the messages I kept hearing today and was asked to share.

It feels….
Less colonial
Less capitalist.
To work less hard.

🌱 What will emerge for you if you work less hard?

🌱 I was surprised to notice an increase in focus, creativity, presence, emotions and energy.

As an immigrant to Canada, I’m born in Kenya 🇰🇪 and my ancestors are from India 🇮🇳 - more and more I see and FEEL how this North American (at least big city/greater Toronto) pace of life does not suit my body. The grind life and culture.

The irony is my parents moved here for a “better life” and yet they aged sooooo much faster than their similar age relatives in Kenya, and also those who immigrated to UK and Australia.

⁉️What is is about North America that’s so taxing??? My immigrant relatives in UK and Australia didn’t age like my parents!!

North American culture often thinks we have to work hard before getting a break or some rest.

But what if it’s the other way round?

🌟Have you rested enough to do good work?

🌟I find in particular as winter comes nature begins to slow down but with Xmas and holidays our society picks up the pace.

It’s completely the opposite of what our bodies need!!!

🌟What might you do the rest of this year to slow down more, rest more?

I’ll be napping when I can/feel like, eating slower, minimizing on social events around winter solstice especially, connect with like minded people more, watch nature, ask plants and plant medicine to help me.

🌟How about you?

What have you had to let go of and grieve in order to allow in the new?

Here’s some things I hear people share and I can relate to as well

🔅Letting go of young adult children, and letting in their independence, one’s own freedom.

🔅Letting go of what one needed in a relationship/friendship, in order to allow new relationships or new ways of being in current ones.

🔅Letting go of what health was like years ago and allowing a new form of health and healthy living.

🔅Letting go of a career and what’s expected in North American culture, to allow in what’s more aligned.

What’s been your experience(s)?

Here’s a few that came to mind, let me know your thoughts!

🔸Conception
🔸 Birth or miscarriage.
🔸Death or loss (of person, thing, job, health etc)
🔸Start or end of a relationship
🔸Young kids becoming young adults, and moving out or becoming more independent.
🔸Perimenopause or menopause.
🔸 re-location.

What else do you wish was spoken, felt more openly about???

The more I’m reading about perimenopause/menopause, the more I can’t help but think of the intersection with trauma.

When that anxiety/depression hits in late 30s, into 40s - how much is that trauma waiting to be processed versus hormonal changes?

What about the “unusual” sensation, aches, pains, itches, etc?

The headaches or migraines?

The gut or pelvic floor changes?

Skin issues?

I’m sure there are so many more.

I’ll definitely be paying more attention to this intersection in myself and with clients.

What do you experience with that instruction?

▫️ a shift in muscle tension
▫️ nothing
▫️ more thoughts
▫️ a change in spine alignment
▫️ a different breathe
▫️ a curiosity?

I was surprised at how well my body usually “listens” to instruction!?

Too much is tied into how much you/we are doing, working or earning.

Having been in Europe last year - the focus of life is so different.

Less of a rat race.
Less greed
More community, connection and caring relationships
More laughter, more fun.
More health.
More ease

Yes it was a vacation. But since then I’ve heard from multiple people how their health and GUT was soooo much better.

What toxins are we ingesting investing in North America that’s creating so much chaos in our bodies???

Thoughts???

Our Story

“I have come to the conclusion that human beings are born with an innate capacity to triumph over trauma. I believe not only that trauma is curable, but that the healing process can be a profound catalyst for awakening – a portal opening to emotional and genuine transformation” (P. Levine creator of Somatic Experiencing)

You instinctively know that chronic stress and trauma are affecting your physical, emotional and spiritual health especially those vague symptoms that no-one can give you answers for.

Trauma also leads to issues such as chronic fatigue, pain, anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder.

The Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE) studies have shown that childhood trauma is not only psychological.
