Eating Disorders Awareness Week, February 1-7

Nearly 1 million Canadians live with a diagnosable eating disorder.

Eating disorders are serious mental health conditions that impact a person’s identity, self-worth, and overall self-esteem. They’re marked by disturbances in thoughts, emotions, and behaviours relating to food, eating, and perceptions of one’s body. Eating disorders are thought to stem from various factors: genetics and biology, negative childhood experiences, trauma, oppression (including racism, colonialism and gender-based oppression), media exposure and a culture of thinness, and psychological factors. Although they can affect anyone, eating disorders disproportionately impact teens and women.

Our February activity schedule is up! We’ve got lots of great things planned for every Saturday this month, so come on out and join us. As always, there’s absolutely no obligation to participate. Feel free to simply drop in for a wonderful cup of Altitude coffee and a good chat.

Sundays are a little more low-key and relaxed. We hang out, catch up, and offer a bit of group peer support and do a gentle check-in with everyone.

You can find us every Saturday and Sunday at 20 Darling Street, from 12:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. We’d love to see you! Whether you’re here for the activities, the coffee, the conversation, or all three. ☕️😊🌻

We are deeply grateful to everyone who joined our Saturday drop-in and helped create these heartfelt Valentine’s for Vets cards. ❤️ They will be shipped out this week and distributed to veterans who may be experiencing loneliness or isolation, serving as a small gesture to remind them of how deeply they are appreciated for their service and sacrifices.

Our drop-in is open again tomorrow, featuring a one-hour peer group session focused on connection and shared coping strategies. This is a safe, supportive, and inclusive space.

We invite you to join us tomorrow from
12:00 to 2:30 p.m. at
20 Darling Street.
We look forward to seeing you!

Please join us tomorrow, January 31st, for our Saturday drop-in program.
We have a very special activity planned called
Valentine’s for Vets. 🇨🇦

We’ll be creating Valentine’s cards filled with kind messages for veterans as a small but meaningful way to show our appreciation for all they do. No artistic experience required. Just bring your kindness and creativity. ❤️

Our drop-in is open from 12:00 to 2:30 p.m. at 20 Darling Street. If crafting isn’t your thing, you’re still very welcome to stop by for peer support, coffee, and some friendly chit-chat.

As always, trained peer support specialists will be available for one-on-one conversations if you’re struggling with your mental health. We hope to see you there.

We were hoping to kick off our winter session of Mood Walks today, but the cold weather has proven to be a bit too much for even our most dedicated hike leaders to brave. As a result, we will be CANCELING today’s walk.

We’re keeping our fingers crossed that the weather warms up by next Wednesday. If it doesn’t, we’ll still be meeting, just with a slightly cozier plan. Instead of walking, we’ll gather for a coffee, some good conversation, and to map out routes for the winter season together.

Please plan to join us next Wednesday at:
10:00 a.m.
20 Darling Street

If you have any questions, feel free to contact Sandy at sandy@hopebrant.ca.

Stay warm out there today! We promise brighter (and warmer) days are ahead.

Our winter session of Mood Walks begins tomorrow morning! While it’s shaping up to be a chilly one, we’re still hoping for a short, refreshing walk followed by a well-deserved stop for a nice warm coffee.

It’s a great chance to get a little movement in, lift your mood, enjoy some social connection, and share a few good conversations along the way. Bundle up and join us. We’d love to see you tomorrow morning at 10:00 a.m. We meet at 20 Darling Street.

Join us on Thursday, January 29th for our Mood Matters peer support group.

This week, we’re excited to welcome a special guest. Our friend, Kathleen, from A Minute for Mental Health will be joining us for a meaningful discussion on mental health stigma and mental illness acceptance. It’s shaping up to be a really great conversation.

Mood Matters is a drop-in group, so no registration required.

We meet at:
44 King Street, Suite 205 (please buzz Hope to access the building)
11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

We truly hope you’ll join us. Come as you are, stay for the conversation, and remember, your mood does matter.

Our offices are closed today. However, our staff are available via email.

Thank you to everyone who came out to our Saturday drop-in. We were happily surprised by how many braved the cold to join us.

Our friend, Tracey, led us through some Tai Chi moves (way harder than it looks), and there were lots of laughs. Thanks Tracey. We’ll certainly have you back.

Join us Sunday from 12:00–2:30 at 20 Darling Street for a relaxed drop-in with coffee, conversation, and group peer support. Come warm up and say hi!
