BBNOHT was proud to take part in this meaningful event, joining our OHT in celebrating the flag raising that marks the start of Black History Month. It was inspiring to come together as a community to honor the contributions, history, and achievements of Black Canadians!

Today in Harmony Square, we raised the Black History Month flag to mark the beginning of Black History Month in Brantford, a moment to come together as a community.

This year’s theme, 30 Years of Black History Month: Honouring Black Brilliance Across Generations, reminds us that Black history is woven into the story of our city and continues to shape who we are today.

Thank you to Theresa Vidal of Woodview Mental Health & Autism Services, to Dr. Robert Ame from Wilfrid Laurier University, and to the many community partners who helped make this gathering possible.

Black History Month is a time to learn, reflect, and celebrate together.

Events are happening throughout February, with many opportunities for the community to take part:

The Cancer Screening Mobile Coach is back, offering free cancer screening for people who meet age guidelines and may be experiencing barriers such as limited access, time constraints, or not having a primary care provider.

The coach also offers support for anyone aged 18+ who is looking to quit smoking or va**ng.

This female-staffed mobile clinic is open to anyone with a valid Ontario health card or Interim Federal Health Benefits. Appointments are encouraged to help keep things running smoothly, but walk-ins are welcome on a first-come, first-served basis.

There’s no pressure and no judgment—just a simple, convenient way to stay on top of your health. If you’ve been putting off screening, this is a great opportunity to get it done.

In addition, the Brantford Brant and Norfolk Ontario Health Team (BBNOHT) will be inside the Wayne Gretzky Sports Centre connecting with community members. Our team will be available to share information on how to find a family doctor, where to go for care in the meantime, and digital health tools available to support residents across Brantford, Brant, and Norfolk.

Participation involves a 90-minute virtual focus group, is voluntary and confidential, and includes a $50 gift card as a thank-you.

If you’re interested in participating or would like more information, please contact the research team using the details on the poster.
