📣 TAKING STEPS TO CONSERVE WATER IN OUR COMMUNITY
As conditions continue to be dry across Nova Scotia, the Public Service Commission of Bridgewater and Town of Bridgewater are urging residents and businesses to follow voluntary water conservation measures at this time.

With limited recent rainfall in the area for the past several months, significantly more precipitation than we’ve received recently is needed for watershed levels to return to normal.

The Public Service Commission of Bridgewater is requesting that all water customers in the Town of Bridgewater and surrounding area, as well as those who live or work within building located in the Bridgewater area, strive to reduce water usage – this will help to ease the demand on the source water lakes in our community’s watershed.

Taking these steps now may help delay or remove the need for additional water conservation measures later.

WHAT CAN YOU DO?
There are a number of steps that you can take to help reduce your household water consumption. These steps include:

- Check your toilet for leaks and only flush when necessary

- Shortening your showers and cutting down on the frequency; a 5-minute shower uses about 50L of water total

- Switching to a water-saving showerhead can save up to 30L every 10 minutes of showering

- Taking care to turn off the tap when not in use while brushing your teeth, shaving, washing your face

- Avoid running your tap to get cold water, instead keep a pitcher of water in the fridge

- Don’t use hot water to thaw frozen foods – plan ahead and take food out of the freezer earlier

- Wash only full loads of laundry and dishes – modern dishwashers use far less water than washing dishes by hand

- Limit or eliminate activities that use excessive amounts of water, such as watering lawns, washing vehicles, or filling swimming pools

To learn more about how you can conserve water, visit the Lunenburg County Regional Emergency Management Organization (REMO) at https://www.lunenburgremo.ca/drought.html. The Province of Nova Scotia also has some info on water conservation here: https://novascotia.ca/nse/water/docs/waterconservation.pdf.
