Yin Motions for Emotions-Six Week Session
I'm back in Mexico on a journey of self discovery and learning. It's been a bumpy ride in many ways, so, especially in times of turmoil or change it's important keep our toolbox open and use the skills we've developed to remain grounded and centered. This is why I chose to focus on the emotions that often govern our physiological well-being for this upcoming series, and to aim for balance and restoration through Yin Yoga and the related meridians.
In the past year or two almost everyone I meet seems to have a heightened sense of the challenges we face as humans. Someone commented that he feels we live under a constant sense of existential threat, so it is increasingly important to step out of that and into taking care of ourselves, feeling gratitude for all that we can, and supporting each other to be balanced and well. Participating in a practice that eases our movement, enhances the flow of qi/energy throughout the body, supports good sleep, quiets the mind, and improves our sense of well being, reaps innumerous benefits.
The four pillars of health are nutrition, sleep, exercise, and stress management. Yin Yoga contributes positively to each of these aspects. I would venture to say also that being part of a positive and supportive community and having faith in the potential of mankind, in a unified energy greater than ourselves, and in our own personal potential, are important, too.
In this yin yoga class, we create a nurturing space to connect deeply with our emotions through mindful awareness. Using gentle movement, breath, and prolonged stretches, we invite these emotions to surface and release. Guided by Traditional Chinese Medicine, each session centers on a paired meridian and organ system, offering targeted postures that focus on specific areas of the body. As we relax into each pose, we gently soften the fascia and connective tissues that often hold onto emotions for years, creating blockages we may not even recognize as contributors to chronic pain or restricted movement. This practice encourages qi, or energy, to flow freely, inviting a profound sense of relaxation and balance. Each posture is adaptable, empowering each person to shape a meaningful, personal practice that fosters healing and greater ease in body and mind.
I hope you join me for this six week session taking us up to December 18, so that we can enter into winter with an enhanced sense of well being and balance. A new session will begin in January.
