March is the Pharmacy Appreciation Month 💊

It is an opportunity to recognize the essential role hospital pharmacy teams play in delivering safe, effective, and patient-centered care.

Pharmacists and pharmacy technicians work collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams to optimize medication therapy, prevent adverse drug events, and ensure continuity of care across the patient journey.

In fast-paced and high-acuity environments, their expertise in clinical decision-making, medication safety, and operational efficiency is critical to achieving positive patient outcomes.

This month serves as a meaningful reminder to acknowledge their dedication, professionalism, and the integral value they bring to the healthcare system every day.

March is Social Work Month—a time to recognize the care, insight, and teamwork social workers bring to patients, families, and colleagues across our hospital and our partner programs.

This year’s Ontario theme, Care. Insight. Together., reflects the powerful blend of compassion and critical thinking that defines the profession. Nationally, the Canadian Association of Social Workers (CASW) is celebrating its 100th anniversary, recognizing a century of stories, advocacy, and transformative impact.

For Emily, Intake Social Worker, Front Avenue Mental Health Outpatient, the month has a special meaning.

“It encourages us to pause and think about all the social workers who chose a helping profession and show up every shift wanting to improve the lives of patients.”

Social workers bring clinical expertise, systems navigation, and human connection to everyday challenges.

“Many people think social workers mainly handle forms or discharge planning. In reality, we support people through trauma, grief, mental health crises, and lifechanging diagnoses. We’re often the ones helping families make sense of what’s happening,’ explains Emily, Social Worker, Leeds Ontario Provincial Police Mobile Crisis Response Team.

At Assault Response and Care Centre (ARCC), Brandy, Social Worker and Team Lead, underscores the depth of skills across settings.

“I think it’s important to highlight the diversity of roles/skills social workers have throughout the healthcare sector—support from a social worker varies depending on the role they are in.”

As Dennis, Social Worker, Assertive Community Treatment Team (ACTT) adds, social work, to him, is about showing up with compassion and being present for the people who need him most.

“Professionally, to be a true compassionate and empathetic part of the community is an honour.”

And Tito, Social Worker, Inpatient Units, points to the often-overlooked complexity and impact of the role.

“We play an important part in ensuring that patients are supported not only medically, but also emotionally and socially… Social Work Month is a time to bring attention to the many contributions social workers make in improving the experiences of patients, families, and even colleagues.”

Thank you and congratulations to Jeanette MacNaughtan, Maddie Couture and family on the incredible success of this year's Redneck Rendezvous fundraiser in support of Palliative Care and Pancreatic Cancer Canada.

This year's event raised an amazing $43,000, with $10,000 going to Pancreatic Cancer Canada and $33,000 supporting the Palliative Care Program at Brockville General Hospital

We are so grateful to Jeanette and everyone who helped bring this special event to life. Over the past 4 years, Jeanette's imaginative and creative fundraising efforts have raised a remarkable combined total of $100,000 in honour of her brother, Jeff Boisvenue.

This weeks image is from Pete Vander Velde. A macro exploration of an orange Daylily, captured on canvas with a focus on its fluid lines and organic geometry. By isolating the bloom against a stark black background, the piece emphasizes the intensity of its pigment and the delicate texture of its petals.
"This work was created to explore the concept of resilience. I wanted to capture the moment a flower is at its peak—vibrant and unapologetic—even when surrounded by an encroaching shadow. It serves as a visual reminder that light and color are most profound when they emerge from the dark. The viewer can confront the intricate details of the flower's anatomy, while the warm color palette evokes a sense of energy and natural warmth," says Pete.

Our Story

At Brockville General Hospital (BGH), we believe in achieving excellence together. We are driven by the needs of our community and we collaborate with our patients, their families and our partners to deliver the best healthcare experience.

We provide a wide variety of services from Emergency to Surgical Services, Acute Inpatient, Rehabilitation, Complex Continuing Care and several Outpatient and Community Programs. Our Mental Health Program includes Acute Inpatient, Outpatient, crisis support and several community services. BGH currently operates on four sites: Charles Street, Garden Street, Front Avenue and Strowger Boulevard. Through our Phase 2 Redevelopment Project, BGH will consolidate the services offered at our Garden Street site to the main campus. Following the project completion, in 2020, BGH will expand by 22 new beds.

BGH is a growing community hospital, located in Brockville, Ontario, on the banks of the St. Lawrence River. We are centrally located between Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto and New York State, within the beautiful Thousand Islands region of Ontario. We care for the over 100,000 residents within Leeds Grenville and South Lanark.

Grow with us! Through our Redevelopment Project, BGH will be consolidating all our inpatient programs under one roof and increasing our services to meet the future needs of our community. If you are passionate about delivering the best healthcare experience, visit our careers section on our website.
