What is individual therapy?

Life stressors, big or small, have a way of taking a toll on how we feel and think about ourselves, our lives and our relationships. Individual therapy is a type of psychotherapy that is provided by a trained mental health clinician to help address mental health difficulties. The holiday season is full of joy and celebration, when families gather to share the festivities and make memories. However, it may also be a reminder of someone or something we lost. These feelings can be painful and overwhelming to cope with.

Self-care can help regain a sense of wellbeing. Below are a few ideas to get you started on taking care of you.

1. One of the biggest memory triggers is smell. During the holidays there are a lot of distinctive scents! And any of those can cause a flood of memories. Find some that remind you of happy times and scatter that scent around your home.

2. Make new memories. Or transform old ones. Creating Art During the Holidays to Connect With Those We've Lost - AWBW or Canadian Healing Quilt are great places to gather ideas.

3. Spend time with good friends.

4. And most importantly, acknowledge your feelings. Each emotion is real and deserves to be recognized. Healing isn't linear.

5. Treat yourself as you would treat a good friend or family member you care about.
