π₯ Fire Safety Reminder: Ashes, Woodstoves & Carbon Monoxide π₯
A common but dangerous practice we still see is storing a pail of ashes beside a woodstove.
Hot embers can remain hidden in ashes for days, even when they appear cold. Storing ash pails indoors or beside a woodstove can lead to unintended fires and increase the risk of carbon monoxide (CO) exposure if smouldering ashes release gases into the home.
Carbon monoxide is colourless, odourless, and deadly β and exposure can happen without any warning signs.
β Always place ashes in a metal container with a tight-fitting lid
β Store the container outside, away from buildings and combustible materials
β Ensure working smoke & CO alarms are installed on every level of your home
β Never store ash pails indoors or near a woodstove
A few simple precautions can prevent fires and save lives. Heat safely this winter. ππ₯
