Happy Valentine's day! 💘 Today we celebrate a love that stood the test of time. Meet Alfred and Dorothy, my great-grandparents who were the epitome of lifelong romance. Born just four days apart, their journey together began in Toronto, where they were married in 1937. For nearly 65 years they were inseparable, building a beautiful life and raising four children together. A love so deep and enduring, I just know they're still together somewhere on the other side. 💐

This was challenging and depressing to untangle...my 5th great grandparents, Thomas & Maria Barriff had 10 children. 5 of them lived past the age of 4. Likely the living conditions in London in the 1800s 😞

History would say they were "good friends"...

I'm sure this is just an error on this census from 1871. Still interesting Mary & Ann Kiernan appear to be a couple in this household 🤪 🌈

A fascinating discovery, in 1876 one of my ancestors died of "General paralysis of the insane". This was characterized by abnormal behaviour, cognitive decline, dementia, psychosis, paralysis, and ultimately death by convulsions.
We know now that GPI is caused by an untreated syphilis infection. Today it is highly treatable with penicillin.

Found on the 1861 Census of England. This family has "All living in sin & ignorance" recorded instead of their birth place 🤣 the "NK" means Not Known.
