Incipient is the very first stage of a 🦷 cavity.

It usually presents itself as white chalky spots that if left untreated, can develop into full blown cavities.

🥳 The good news is, when caught early enough, incipient decay CAN BE CONTROLLED!

🦷 Just another reason to keep up with regular checkups and x-rays. These are things your dentist CAN catch early and WILL provide ways to help prevent further decay.

🦷 Dipping floss in fluoride toothpaste is one of many great tips we share with families on a regular basis. Fluoride helps add minerals back into the teeth to strengthen them. The floss pushes the toothpaste between your teeth, to help strengthen vulnerable areas that a toothbrush could never reach!

Fluoride isn’t one-size-fits-all 🦷✨

At-home fluoride use depends on your child’s cavity risk — and that’s something we assess at every visit to help guide you.

In general: once those first molars come in, it’s time to introduce a *tiny* amount of fluoride toothpaste (think the size of a ballpoint pen tip!). Until then, brushing with water works just fine 👍

Have questions about what’s best for your child? We’re always here to help you make confident choices for their smile 💙

No matter what age we will meet your child where they’re at!

If your child is an infant we go by first tooth first visit or by age 1. A first trip to the pediatric dentist does two things:

First, it creates a dental home for your child; somewhere they feel safe, cared for and comfortable going as they grow.

Second, this visit starts the journey in protecting your child’s smile now and for the future.

“When can my child brush on their own?”

The simplest answer is when they can tie their shoes and eat with a fork and knife like royalty, around the age of 8-9.

❤️ Until then it’s up to you, brave parents to help with the process.

Some tips to achieve this Olympic style event - brush wherever, they could be watching their favourite movie, and do it lying down!

🦷 And what about flossing, when do you start? The answer: when two teeth touch. Keep an eye on those baby teeth, as soon as two are touching flossing is super important. It disrupts bacteria where the toothbrush can’t touch.

You got this!!

And that’s because every child is so different! 💛 We are committed to meeting each child where they’re at — bringing them the care they need, in the way they need it.

💚 This approach builds confidence and feelings of accomplishment, and it changes lives not just in the dental chair but for life’s future challenges.

❤️ A little extra love goes a long way, and we do our best to facilitate that here - helping siblings get each other through appointments or helping parents envelope their child with love during cleanings are just some ways this happens.

Small details but big impact!

Q: What’s your favourite✨detail✨and why is it the tooth fairy door? 🧚‍♀️🦷

Groovy 👇🏼

Sealants work by filling in the grooves on the chewing surfaces of the teeth.

They block food particles from getting stuck in the teeth which prevents cavities from forming.

The application is fast and comfortable and can effectively protect teeth for many years.

Remember, tooth decay doesn’t just happen overnight — it’s impacted (or prevented!) by daily habits 🦷✨

When parents model healthy habits, kids follow. When kids learn young, those habits last a lifetime. Prevention isn’t just about teeth — it’s about confidence, comfort, and long-term health.

We are supporting The Children’s Aid Foundation of Halton this year for donation of mittens and socks. We made our goal of 50 pairs of mittens last year. With your help, we would like to smash that goal!

CAFH Mission
“Providing life-changing opportunities for children, youth and families supported by the Halton Children’s Aid Society.”

Founded in 1990 the Children's Aid Foundation of Halton is the charitable arm of the Halton Children's Aid Society (Halton CAS). Our purpose is to provide life-changing opportunities, programs and resources to children, youth and families who are receiving services from the Halton Children's Aid Society.
The activities we provide are additional to the essential child protection services funded by the Ministry, enhancing the work of Halton CAS and enriching the lives of those in need.

Annually Halton CAS supports an average of 5,000 children and youth in Halton, of those just 3% are placed in foster care, which means the majority of work takes place in the community endeavoring to keep families together by strengthening and empowering children and caregivers alike.
CAFH Vision "A community where all children, youth and families can reach their full potential."
