LDN has a growing reputation in helping to regulate the immune system with many applications including in cancer. And while LDN is not an op**te, an actual blocker of this action, it may continue to have pain management properties. Two recent papers exploring its use in both humans and dogs for pain and quality of life sheds light into this experimental, off-label application. Doses ranged from 1.5mg to 4.5mg per day.

The gift that keeps on giving? Niacinamide (vitamin B3) has a growing reputation to help with recurrent non-melanoma skin cancers. New research suggests using doses 500mg per day and up may also reduce risk of heart attacks, peripheral vascular disease, and cardiac arrest. The data is retrospective, observational using a large US database. Im sure more to come.

New phase 1-2 data coming from Alberta, Canada exploring the use of vitamin B3 - Niacin - in Glioblastoma brain cancer. The dose they will be exploring is 2000mg per day. This version of vitamin B3 causes flushing. The initial data appeared promising with an increase in progression-free survival.

There are metallo-estrogens that have estrogenic properties linked with cancers which includes breast cancers. For example, cadmium, aluminum, nickel, arsenic, lead. Research also suggests potential interferences with endocrine treatments as well (i.e. aromatase inhibitors, fulvestrant). The data is preliminary but of interest and opens the door for investigation using treatments such as chelation therapy (i.e. DMPS, EDTA, etc.) to assess/treat potential toxic burden.

European scientists and clinicians in the US from two pediatric oncology programs have developed the first study of Mistletoe or Viscum album extract in the US pediatric and young adult oncology populations with osteosarcoma cancers. This phase 2 trial is actively enrolling at two US sites with initiation of two additional sites in progress. This study is unique in its use of a naturally derived agent, not as complementary therapy, but as a primary anticancer agent for prevention of metastases.

Allogenic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT) is a curative treatment for hematological disorders but often results in micronutrients deficiency and complications. Vitamin C, a potent antioxidant, may improve endothelial function, tissue protection, and immune recovery. This triple blind study evaluated the effects of early high-dose vitamin C supplementation on plasma vitamin C levels and post-HSCT complications. As a result vitamin C effectively corrected plasma levels, and trends toward reduced complications were observed.

Preliminary double-blind, randomized clinical trial using high-dose Aged Garlic Extract (AGE 2.4 mL/d) which equals 6 capsules per day (3 twice daily) - Kyolic - as an active treatment and low-dose AGE (AGE 0.16 mL/d) as a control was performed on 51 patients with colorectal adenomas (polyps). The patients were randomly assigned to the two groups after adenomas larger than 5 mm in diameter were removed by polypectomy. The number and size of adenomas right before intake (0 mo) and at 6 and 12 mo after intake were measured using colonoscopy. Thirty-seven patients (19 in the active group, 18 in the control group) completed the study and were evaluated for the efficacy of AGE (aged garlic extract). The number of adenomas increased in the control group from the beginning (the baseline), but AGE significantly suppressed both the size and number of colon adenomas in patients after 12 mo of high-dose treatment (P = 0.04). The results suggest AGE suppresses progression of colorectal adenomas in humans.

Fundamentally we are here because of the people with cancer we have helped and the ones we continue to serve

We began as a general naturopathic medical clinic in 1999 that evolved to a clinic focused in treating and supporting people with cancer whether in the early stages of a diagnosis, in active surveillance, during and following treatment, for those living with cancer and wanting more, to those exploring ways to improve survivorship goals, including those interested in exploring early detection methods or other tests of interest, even when considered preliminary or experimental. We have also incorporated technologies more commonly known from other parts of the world so that we could provide such treatments right here in Canada. At times we may be learning together, however, fundamentally we have become experienced in this area of cancer and work with each patient to provide well-informed, experience and research-guided treatment plans whenever possible, using a wide range of innovative approaches along side fundamental supportive care. We have also established positive working relationships with members of the oncology community to access as needed. We are more than just a clinic — we provide a network for empowered patients to support and help each other thrive
