MO- (short for moustache) vember (Short for November) is a month-long awareness and fundraising campaign intended to bring attention to Men’s health - more specifically Prostate and testicular cancers as well as mental and emotional health in men.
Testicular cancer:
Testicular cancer is the most prevalent cancer in men aged 15 to 35, but it’s also among the most treatable when caught early. An estimated 1,200 Canadian men will be diagnosed with testicular cancer in 2022. An estimated 35 will die from the disease. As a general rule, the earlier testicular cancer is diagnosed and treated the better the prognosis. That’s why it is important to check regularly and consult a doctor if something is not right.
Prostate cancer: Prostate cancer is the 4th most common cancer in Canada with 1 in 9 men diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime. About 23,300 men will have been diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2020. It is one of the most common types of cancer in men over 50. This cancer has a great prognosis when caught early and why it’s important to consult a doctor regularly.
Mental health: Around 10% of Canadian men experience significant mental health challenges in their life. Approximately one million Canadian men suffer from major depression each year. On average, approximately 4,000 Canadians take their own life each year, of those suicides; 75% are men.
