In the 37th Vancouver Q***r Film Festival, one of the world premieres includes a local documentary called - A Place Where I Belong. This is the story of a group of people who are fighting for q***r disabled rights in BC. You may recognize some of the folks sharing their experiences, and the film’s director Rheanna Toy of Cloudstreet Media – who is one of our favourite storytellers. This award celebrates Jotti’s legacy and uplifts artists with diverse abilities who are early in their creative journey.

Today, we celebrate the stunning lands we live on and the diverse communities that make British Columbia such a special place to call home. From coastal waters to mountain peaks, and from vibrant cities to close-knit neighbourhoods, BC is a beautiful blend of people, culture, and nature.

We also recognize that these lands have been cared for by Indigenous Peoples since time immemorial. As we enjoy this day, we hold space for reflection, gratitude, and continued learning.

📍 Meet CQC group at 5PM at Trout Lake Community Centre for pre-march activities such as welcome speeches + free sign making (with ASL).

🚶‍♀️ March starts at 6PM up Commercial Drive, ending at Victoria Park for the Trans March Festival which includes performances (with ASL), vendors, a clothing swap & more!

🎨How do I register
If you’re an artist in BC with diverse abilities, you’re welcome to be part of the INCLUSION Art Show.

We celebrate the work of disabled artists, those who identify as having a disability, and artists with lived experience of difference — including:
• Intellectual or developmental disabilities
• Physical disabilities or differences (like brain injury, vision, hearing, or mobility)
• Neurodivergence

🖼️ What kind of art can I show?
All visual art forms are welcome — paintings, drawings, textiles, photography, mixed media, and more!

♿Is the venue accessible?
Yes! The venue is fully accessible, with a safe loading zone for those arriving by HandyDART or personal vehicle.

🌟 August – October Q***r ASL Registration Is Open! 🌟

Q***r ASL is a q***r + trans positive space for learning American Sign Language online at a variety of skill levels.

This cycle they will offer the general 101-104 classes, 101-103 classes for QTBIPOC folks, 101-104 PWD classes that are centered around disabilities, and 101-103 immersion classes as well. This cycle starts August 24th onwards. Sign-up today!
