We’ve all been there: picking a fight about the dishes when what we really want to say is, “I’ve missed you today.”
It’s called Protest Behavior. When we don’t feel secure or seen, we sometimes “protest” the distance by acting out, withdrawing, or testing our partner. It feels safer to be angry than to admit we feel lonely or scared.
The most important thing to remember? The need for reassurance isn’t “dramatic”—it’s human. Learning to ask for safety directly is the shift that changes everything.
