More than just sewing 🧵💜

Through Charlford and Northstar’s Fashionably Sewber program, women are learning new creative skills while building confidence, connection, patience, and teamwork along the way.

From handmade scrunchies to tote bags — and soon ribbon skirts — each project represents growth, creativity, and the joy of creating something from start to finish.

A huge thank you to Ricks Heart Foundation BC for supporting programs that create meaningful opportunities for women in our communities. A special thank you to Laura, our sewing instructor, for her guidance, patience, and dedication in supporting the women through each step of their learning and growth.

Happy Mother’s Day from all of us at Charlford 💐

Today we honour the mothers, daughters, grandmothers, and women whose strength helps shape families and communities every single day.

The care, guidance, and support women give to those around them creates a lasting impact and a legacy that reaches far beyond what can be seen. At Charlford, we are grateful to witness women supporting one another, lifting each other up, and creating a strong sense of community and connection every day.

There’s nothing more powerful than hearing how recovery changes lives. 💙
At Charlford House, we see every day how connection and compassionate care can transform lives.

“The love and support I received at this house has healed me in so many ways. I can now live the life I was intended to, with my family and friends back in my life. It truly is my ‘forever home.’”

Recovery isn’t just about getting sober—it’s about rebuilding connection, rediscovering purpose, and finding a place where you truly belong.

This moving documentary, Beat by Beat: A Path to Recovery, shines a light on the power of music therapy as a pathway to healing 🎶—sharing real stories of connection, expression, and growth within recovery.

Featuring our music therapist, Rebecca Barr of Awaken Music Therapy, alongside Sarah, Shelbie and the incredible women of Charlford, this piece captures something deeper—recovery that goes beyond abstinence. It’s about reclaiming identity, finding your voice, and creating space for real, lasting healing 💛
At Charlford, we witness this transformation every day. Through community, creativity, and compassionate care, women are rebuilding their lives—one step, one song, one moment at a time.

A heartfelt thank you to Music Heals Canada for their continued support of our music therapy program, and to the BCIT Journalism students, Orchid, Ayden, Braedon & Thomas for taking the time to connect with us and share this powerful story.

“I raise up my voice—not so I can shout, but so that those without a voice can be heard.” — Malala Yousafzai

Finding your voice is not always easy. For many women, it comes after silence, after pain & trauma, after feeling unseen or unheard. But when you begin to share your story—you begin to take that power back. Speaking your truth doesn’t just create healing for you. It creates connection. It creates understanding. And it gives others the courage to step forward and say, “me too.”

Your story has the power to break isolation, to challenge stigma, and to remind someone else that healing is possible. If you’re ready to speak, we’re here to listen. And if you’re not, we’ll hold the space until you are.

March is Music Therapy Month 🎶

At Charlford, music therapy is more than a program—it’s a pathway to healing.

For over 10 years, this work has been made possible through the support of Music Heals, helping ensure these therapeutic spaces continue to grow and reach those who need them most.

A special thank you to Rebecca Barr—certified music therapist, singer/songwriter, and Director of Awaken Music Therapy—whose dedication and care continue to create safe, empowering spaces for women in recovery.
