At Cameray Child and Family Services, we see every day how music helps children and families grow together and this Music Therapy Awareness Month we're sharing some moments from our recent early years Harmony for All session.
Through song, rhythm, and movement, our youngest clients build communication skills, strengthen attachment, develop self-regulation, and gain confidence.
This group was run in partnership with Harmony For All, a community-based initiative for Burnaby residents, that provides free musical instrument lending, no-cost musical education outreach programs and scholarship opportunities for City music lessons. This initiative is the brainchild of Burnaby City Councillor and musician Joe Keithley, and is geared towards Burnaby residents who cannot afford instruments and lessons or experience barriers to participation. Harmony for All aims to connect people through music, promote positive interactions and build stronger communities.
Thank you to Michaela Slinger, who has been facilitating the groups at Cameray:
"As a professional musician and songwriter, I feel so lucky to have the opportunity to stay grounded in the transformative and joyful power of music on a daily basis as a facilitator with Harmony For All. Cameray is such a wonderful place for new parents and their little ones to play and explore together, and it's always evident in my time there how much the staff cares about creating community and supporting healthy development."
