Sometimes, the best courses don’t give you all the answers... they help you ask better questions.
That’s exactly what Greg Lehman did during his recent visit with us.

We recently hosted an incredible course with Greg Lehman, and let’s just say, our brains and bodies got a serious upgrade. 🧠💥

Feeling back pain when you deadlift? 💥 Let’s break down a few common reasons why. 🧐

→ If your lower back is rounding, your spine isn’t staying neutral—make sure to hinge from the hips and brace your core like you’re taking a light punch. 💪

→ Tight hips? They can force your back to do extra work. Add some mobility drills before you lift. 🧘‍♂️

→ Also, keep the bar close to your shins—if it drifts forward, it puts more strain on your back. 🎯

→ And don’t rush the weight. Build up gradually with good form to avoid unnecessary pain. ⏳

❌ Mistake #1: Slouching or leaning forward = pain city!
✅ Fix: Sit tall, ears over shoulders, feet flat.

❌ Mistake #2: Monitor too low or high = neck tension overload!
✅ Fix: Adjust screen to eye level — stack books if needed.

❌ Mistake #3: Reaching for mouse/keyboard = shoulder & wrist strain!
✅ Fix: Keep elbows close, forearms supported.

🎓 Shawndra holds degrees in Human Kinetics from UBC and Physiotherapy from Manchester University. She is an FCAMPT-certified manual therapist, Gunn IMS practitioner, and a certified yoga and Clinical Pilates instructor with over 20 years of experience in sports and orthopaedic physiotherapy.

💼 A movement optimist, Shawndra is passionate about active rehab and helps patients navigate pain, recover from injury, and reach performance goals. She empowers her clients to feel strong and resilient, using a holistic approach that combines manual therapy, movement, and education.

🏅 A former competitive swimmer, Shawndra has worked with athletes across various sports and served as the Team Physiotherapist for the Whitecaps Women’s Reserve and Youth Teams.

Meet Steven, one of our dedicated Physiotherapists at Expert Physiotherapy!

🎓 Steven holds a Master of Science in Physical Therapy from Western University and a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology (First Class with Distinction) from SFU.

💼 Before becoming a physiotherapist, Steven spent five years as an athletic trainer, working with SFU’s NCAA Division II Football & Lacrosse teams and the Coquitlam Adanacs Jr. A Lacrosse team, where he helped them win the Minto Cup in 2016.

🎯 Steven combines hands-on therapy, movement-based rehab, and education to create personalized treatment plans. He’s passionate about helping patients recover, prevent injuries, and build strength—whether for sports or everyday life.

🏃 When he’s not working, Steven enjoys running, reading, listening to podcasts, and spending time with loved ones.

Move or Rest? Here’s How to Know! 🤕➡️

Got an injury and not sure if you should rest or move? Here’s a quick guide:

✅ Move (Mobilize Gently) When:
✔️ Pain & swelling have reduced (usually after 48 hours)
✔️ You’re dealing with stiffness—gentle movement helps prevent weakness
✔️ It’s a minor injury like a mild sprain or strain—movement boosts circulation & healing

🚫 Rest (Immobilize) When:
❌ There’s severe pain, swelling, or instability (like fractures or torn ligaments)
❌ You’ve had surgery or a serious injury that needs time to heal
❌ Moving makes the pain worse or risks further damage

💡 Tip: Start with rest, then ease into movement when it’s safe. Not sure what’s best? Listen to your body—or better yet, ask a pro!
