Unfold U is an inclusive leadership and wellness training service with a focus on amplifying marginalized communities. We currently offer workshops and coaching services. 🌈

If you are just learning about me, I’m Arianne Liu. I am a lioness making way for others in honour of those who have paved way for me. The more privileges and resources I require, the more I want to give back. 🔥

I am a proud Chinese Canadian, daughter and older sister. 🇨🇳

Attachments is the one and only thing that causes true unhappiness. A core principle of Buddhism that I learned volunteering in a monastery in Myanmar is to learn to detach.
The attachments we have to wealth, status, a place, job, relationship or lifestyle is dangerous because it is outside of our reasoned choice. How long we keep them is not in our control.
The only thing that is constant in life is change and our capacity to determine our ability to be resilient and adaptable.
Loss is one of our deepest fears. By pretending that this isn’t going to happen doesn’t make things better. It just makes it more jarring when it occurs.
Always work towards being ready to let go or you inevitably become a slave to maintaining those attachments.

How many times have you heard you are who you surround yourself around or the average of the 5 people you spend the most time with? I know I have multiple times from multiple mentors who have supported me in my growth. I understood it but it really really sunk in the other day in one of my readings and listening to a podcast. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀

If you want to cultivate the best life possible you need to be around people who will push you when you get lost and encourage you to have the conversations you need to ask yourself. So ask yourself: Are they making me better? Do they encourage me to push forward? Or do they bring me to a level I don’t want to be on? ⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This leads me to my next point.

You attract what you are, not what you want. Remember this the next time you feel stuck on why you aren’t around the people you need to be. Or maybe you are being the best you can be and just need to trust that the right people will step into your life. I’ve been on both spectrums where I needed to change the people around me and a little bit of myself. Do you need to make a change? Who are you spending your time with? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

My sister gave me this book earlier this year and I had no idea what was to come. This powerfully written book divides into four chapters serving a different purpose. There were moments of where I had to put down the book because you could feel her pain through her words. It captures her experience with violence, abuse, love, loss and femininity. Another great tool I use to help build self awareness is journaling. I make time everyday to reflect. At the beginning, I only wrote once in awhile but eventually the gap grew closer and closer. Its important to set a realistic approach when implementing new habits. Baby steps. So no, you don't have to reflect everyday. People tend to ask me what exactly do I write in my journal. I tend to focus on daily gratitude as sometimes I lack appreciation for simple things when I get overwhelmed. So my goal is to train my mind to be choose gratitude over self pity. I recommend having a structure of what you want to write in your journal. Are you hoping to discover something about yourself or are you just wanting to write freely? There is no wrong way to do these things. What do you write in your journal?

Meditation isn't about blanking your mind and thinking about nothing. Its the practice of improving your moment to moment awareness. Most forms begin with being aware of your breathe of inhaling and exhaling. There are several ways to meditate and my favourite guided app that I've used for the last year is Headspace. The best time for me to meditate is first thing in the morning. Give it a try. I dare you.
