Your core muscles are some of the most important muscles in your body. A strong core helps prevent injuries, improves balance, stability and posture, eliminates back pain, boosts physical performance, and more!

Most people focus on strengthening their abdominal muscles to improve core strength, but the low back muscles are just as important! If you have a stability ball, the low back extension on ball is a great exercise to strengthen those low back muscles.

First make sure the ball is properly inflated. Then lie belly-side down on the ball, keeping your feet shoulder distance apart on the floor behind you. Place your arms either beside you, crossed on your chest, elbows bent while hands touching the side of your head, or arms straight ahead of you. Now, lift your upper body by engaging your low back and abdominal muscles. Slowly lower down to the starting position and repeat.

Everyone suffers from tight hamstrings from time to time and if you participate in a sport that involve running or sprinting you are especially prone to developing tightness or injury in these muscles.

Stretching your hamstrings regularly can help minimize the chance of injury. Let’s stretch the hamstrings with a seated hamstring stretch.

1. Sit near the edge of a chair with your feet flat on the floor
2. Straighten one leg with your heel on the floor and your toes pointing towards the ceiling
3. Bend forward at the hip and make sure your spine is in a neutral position
4. Hold the stretch for 30 seconds and repeat two to four times

Our hip flexors play an important role in the overall function of our lower body and are essential for walking and running. Sitting for much of the day can cause lower back and hip pain. The seated hip flexion is an easy way to strengthen your hip flexors and prevent pain and injuries.

Let's give it a try!
1. Sit in a chair with your back straight and your feet flat on the floor.
2. With your knee bent at about 90 degrees, lift it up towards the ceiling while keeping your back straight.
3. Slowly bring your knee and foot backdown.
4. Repeat and then switch legs.

The calves are one of the most overused but overlooked muscles in the body. Tightness and discomfort in the calves are often the result of overuse.

When the calves are too tight, it can lead to injuries including shin splints, calf pulls, and stress fractures. That's why it's important to stretch!

1. Stand facing a wall and place one foot in front of the other
2. Place your hands on the wall at eye level
3. Extend forward until you feel a stretch in the calf of the back leg
4. Hold for 15 to 30 seconds
