Kudos to our OT team members for joining CTI’s working group to support each other in their work with First Responders. šŸ‘Øā€šŸš’ šŸ‘®ā€ā™€ļø šŸš‘

With 15 member OTs signed up, today marks the first meeting for this group and the beginning of an important initiative aimed at supporting our team in working with this special population of clients. The group will share resources, course learnings, tips and strategies from working in the field and evaluate and enhance our collective clinical toolkit of assessments and therapeutic interventions.

With many such teams at Community Therapists, we continue to invest in our people, processes and resources to better serve our clients and our clinicians.

A big shout out to our very own Kiley Kwak for her wonderful presentation at last week's WorkSafeBC Annual Healthcare Providers Conference. šŸ‘©ā€šŸ«

Kiley's presentation focused on Driver Rehabilitation and Functional Driving Evaluations including referral indications, typical intervention programs, vehicle modification and the role of the driving clinician in relation to ICBC, RoadSafetyBC and the clients funder. Participants gained a better understanding of when to refer and what's involved as well as the impact a driver rehab program can make in a client's overall recovery journey.

Kiley did an amazing job packing so much information into a short session without it feeling rushed! If you would like to learn more about driver rehabilitation services contact us at driving@communitytherapists.com and Kiley or a member of our driver rehab team would be happy to discuss your case to help you determine if a referral is indicated.

We are delighted to share that our very own Rebecca McDonald, OT, is delivering a CAOT Practice Evidence Webinar entitled "From Pain to Progress" on June 17, 2025 from 9-10 AM PST.

If you work with clients impacted by persistent pain that results in limitations in home, community, leisure or workplace settings, this seminar is for you.

Rebecca artfully weaves together the current evidence and her own clinical experience working with this population to deliver an impactful hour of actionable insights for your clients. Community-based OTs working in private practice will find this session particularly helpful as Rebecca delivers this from a context of working with 3rd party payers in the community and draws upon her experience providing evidence based rationale for her programming to payers to gain approval for her innovative approaches.

Rebecca’s CAOT session is a culmination of many years working in the community with a range of clients impacted by pain and mentoring and supporting many of Community Therapists’ OTs in this challenging but rewarding area of practice. Her passion and expertise for the subject matter has helped our team with some of the most challenging cases and we are incredibly proud of what she has put together to share with the CAOT audience.

Our Managing Director, Salim Janmohamed, was recently recognized by Dean Kelleher of the Faculty of Medicine at the University of British Columbia for his 10+ years of service as an instructor in the MOT program.

While Salim has passed the torch to a new team led by Monita Khaira Sandhu, he continues to provide on demand support and consultation for the instructor team for the Vocational Rehabilitation module which includes FCE, Return to Work, and Disability Management.

Congratulations on this achievement Salim! šŸŽ‰

Last week members of our Fraser Valley team met for a networking lunch hosted by our Directors Sue Reil and Monita Khaira Sandhu. In attendance were OT, PT and Kinesiologist team members! It was a great afternoon to connect and brainstorm ways to further collaborate with our shared clients.

Our clients have many challenges and having a diverse set of team members to facilitate their recovery and return to function is one of the advantages of working in a multidisciplinary setting. Many thanks for S+L Kitchen & Bar for hosting us and for our teammates for taking time out of their day to break bread and share ideas.

2025 is off to a great start! šŸ„‚

Each year the Community Therapists operations team and clinicians who frequent head office get together for our White Elephant Gift Exchange. It’s a chance to break bread with one another, laugh and exchange gifts in a fun atmosphere.

This year’s office party did not disappoint. Many gifts were given and many more were ā€œstolenā€ while we listened to Christmas favourites. Many thanks to all that attended and participated. And…. it wouldn’t be an office White Elephant Gift Exchange at CTI without our customary Salim-Swag, Salim-o-belia, not sure what to call it…..would you hang this stocking at your fireplace!? Thank you Salim Janmohamed for being a good sport. You know we expense these right? For some strange reason these are the most coveted items at our gift exchange…go figure. Happy Holidays from all of your silly, happy colleagues at CTI! šŸŽ„

Every holiday season, the CTI team comes together to support a worthy cause and have some fun in the process. This year many of our team members participated in the Neil Squire Hackathon where we volunteered to "hack" and adapt commercial toys so they could be accessible for children with a variety of disabilities.

Every child deserves to play.

But for many kids with disabilities, toys can be hard to use independently, and commercially adapted versions can run upwards of $300. However, with a little bit of tinkering, we can switch-adapt toys and make them accessible for a fraction of the cost. So along with other volunteers, that’s just what the CTI team did!

Thank you Neil Squire Society and the Community Therapists team members for an amazing evening.

Check out this inspiring video to see how adapted toys make a difference in the lives of children: https://lnkd.in/gi7KN4fg

Last month we were excited to host our annual professional day with clinicians from around the province in the beautiful UBC Boathouse venue in Richmond. This waterfront setting was a great backdrop for an energizing day to reconnect with colleagues, review the year behind us and the plans for the coming year and also take in a valuable professional development course. We were delighted to invite Raj Dhasi for an engaging and educational presentation: From Conflict to Collaboration. Raj’s dynamic presentation was tailored for our group and allowed us to walk away with tangible and actionable strategies to improve our communications and outcomes with clients, funders, each other and of course, family and friends outside of work! Thanks to Turning Point Resolutions and Raj for a wonderful seminar and thanks to all our clinicians and team members to be with us!
