At Community Therapists, every day we see how Occupational Therapists (OTs) help people return to the activities that give them purpose and joy—whether that’s getting back to work after an injury💼, resuming a beloved hobby🎨, or staying active in their community🏃‍♀️.

OTs focus on function—on helping people do the things that truly matter to them. Given October is OT Month, we want to take this opportunity to thank our incredible OT team🙌. Your skill, compassion, and problem-solving creativity make a real difference in helping our mutual clients achieve meaningful goals and return to fulfilling lives.

It’s fitting that October is also Ergonomics Month—OTs are uniquely positioned to bring value to workplaces:
✅ OTs help employees safely return to work—or remain at work—after an injury or illness.
✅ OTs design proactive ergonomic programs that prevent injuries before they happen, benefiting employees and employers alike.

With a unique combination of medical knowledge, return to work strategies and the ability to use equipment (including ergonomic equipment), OTs are an ideal choice for ergonomic interventions in the workplace.

Our OTs draw upon a knowledge base that includes medical impairment, job analysis, ergonomics, disability evaluation, human rights legislation and insurance regulations to provide a comprehensive approach to disability management in the workplace. ✨ Community Therapists is proud to share that Adalia Jetha and Danae Rau, two of our senior OTs, will be co-lead instructors for the UBC Faculty of Medicine MOT Vocational Rehabilitation module in 2025!

With ~100 students across Vancouver, Prince George, and the Fraser Valley, we’re thrilled for them and the students who will benefit from their expertise.

Adalia and Danae bring years of clinical experience in Return to Work, clinical teaching, and mentorship. They’ve also delivered the practical labs for this module for many years—including Job Demands Analysis (JDA) and Functional Capacity Evaluation (FCE)—and have worked closely with past lead instructors.

This module equips MOT graduates with the core skills needed to deliver Return to Work Assessments and Rehabilitation for clients with a range of functional limitations in variety of clinical settings. Students gain both theory and hands-on experience, including completing a real Job Demand Analysis. CTI is proud of our ongoing involvement in developing and adapting this module over time.

👏 A big thank you to all of our past CTI contributors to this UBC MOT module: Monita Sandhu, Salim Janmohamed, and Jasmin Caterer.

A big shout out to our very own Kiley Kwak for her wonderful presentation at last week's WorkSafeBC Annual Healthcare Providers Conference. 👩‍🏫

Kiley's presentation focused on Driver Rehabilitation and Functional Driving Evaluations including referral indications, typical intervention programs, vehicle modification and the role of the driving clinician in relation to ICBC, RoadSafetyBC and the clients funder. Participants gained a better understanding of when to refer and what's involved as well as the impact a driver rehab program can make in a client's overall recovery journey.

Kiley did an amazing job packing so much information into a short session without it feeling rushed! If you would like to learn more about driver rehabilitation services contact us at driving@communitytherapists.com and Kiley or a member of our driver rehab team would be happy to discuss your case to help you determine if a referral is indicated.

We are delighted to share that our very own Rebecca McDonald, OT, is delivering a CAOT Practice Evidence Webinar entitled "From Pain to Progress" on June 17, 2025 from 9-10 AM PST.

If you work with clients impacted by persistent pain that results in limitations in home, community, leisure or workplace settings, this seminar is for you.

Rebecca artfully weaves together the current evidence and her own clinical experience working with this population to deliver an impactful hour of actionable insights for your clients. Community-based OTs working in private practice will find this session particularly helpful as Rebecca delivers this from a context of working with 3rd party payers in the community and draws upon her experience providing evidence based rationale for her programming to payers to gain approval for her innovative approaches.

Rebecca’s CAOT session is a culmination of many years working in the community with a range of clients impacted by pain and mentoring and supporting many of Community Therapists’ OTs in this challenging but rewarding area of practice. Her passion and expertise for the subject matter has helped our team with some of the most challenging cases and we are incredibly proud of what she has put together to share with the CAOT audience.

Last week members of our Fraser Valley team met for a networking lunch hosted by our Directors Sue Reil and Monita Khaira Sandhu. In attendance were OT, PT and Kinesiologist team members! It was a great afternoon to connect and brainstorm ways to further collaborate with our shared clients.

Our clients have many challenges and having a diverse set of team members to facilitate their recovery and return to function is one of the advantages of working in a multidisciplinary setting. Many thanks for S+L Kitchen & Bar for hosting us and for our teammates for taking time out of their day to break bread and share ideas.

2025 is off to a great start! 🥂
