Today is , a day where we call for action towards more patient-centred care in cancer.

Behind every cancer diagnosis is a unique human story—stories of resilience, grief, hope, and healing. People-centred care means seeing the whole person and meeting their unique needs with compassion and empathy.

🎗 January is Cervical Cancer Awareness Month!
Continue reading to learn how prevention starts with you.

💉 Vaccination + Screening = Cervical Cancer Prevention
Cervical cancer is preventable and is almost always caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV). When regular screening is combined with HPV vaccination, cervical cancer becomes one of the most preventable cancers in Canada.

💡 From Pap tests to HPV testing
For decades, the Pap test has been the main screening tool. Today, HPV testing is better at identifying people at risk, allowing for earlier detection, treatment, and reduced future cancer risk. Many provinces and territories have already transitioned to HPV screening, with others preparing to follow.

📚 Stay Informed
If you have a cervix, have been sexually active, and are between 25 and 69, you are likely eligible for screening. Stay up to date with your Pap or HPV tests and talk to your healthcare provider about vaccination and screening options!

📣 We are recruiting participants for our study! We hope to influence the design and implementation of more effective strategies to improve communication between physicians and patient during treatment decision-making.

🧠 We want to understand how patient and physician factors - such as personal experiences and beliefs - affect the way they make treatment decision together, and how these decisions impact patient’s health.

📨 If you would like more information about the study or are interested in participating, please contact us!

📣 Are you a head and neck cancer survivor interested in getting involved in research to help inform healthy policies and support the well-being of all cancer patients?

👤 Head and neck cancer treatment can come with burdens such as functional difficulties and social isolation, which negatively impact patients’ confidence, social integration, and overall quality of life.

🔎 With this study, we hope to better understand the views of HNC survivors when it comes to difficulties, barriers, and factors involved on social isolation and loneliness during HNC treatment.
