Should you or shouldn’t you supplement omega 3 fatty acids/fish oil?

Also of the thousands we tested when I worked in preventative health (and of the hundreds I’ve tested in my program) over 95% are deficient in omega 3’s.

If you aren’t willing to eat the SMASH fish 🐠 then getting your omega 3’s through high quality supplementation may be a good idea to consider.

Signs of low omega 3 fats:

Dry skin and eyes
Cognitive issues
Joint inflammation
Mood issues (anxiety, depression etc)
Skin conditions

Plus at increased risk for cardiovascular disease alongside the symptoms above.

Your 30’s is not the time to “wait and see” (although it never really is that time 🥹)

It’s the time to build the health you want to have the next 30-40 years of your life.

Because here’s the truth most women get told early enough; perimenopause isn’t a phase you enter overnight!

Rather it’s a slow transition and how you experience it is heavily influenced by what you do in your 30s.

This decade sets the foundation.

If your gut is inflamed, your blood sugar is all over the place you’re running on stress and caffeine and your lifestyle is reactive instead of intentional, peri menopause will feel like a train wreck!

Instead, if you use your 30s to stabilize your blood sugar, support your gut microbiome, restore digestive irregularities, support detox pathways, build muscle, regulate your nervous system and * actually* nourish your body (not restrict it), then perimenopause becomes a transition into the next beautiful chapter of your life, and not a breakdown !

This can tell us if you’re still producing progesterone (ovulating), about your estrogen levels and the detox pathways they go through, your cortisol levels, testosterone levels and more.

👉🏼 Your labs *aren’t* fine if you have symptoms, even if your doctor says you “fine”

They’re just not bad enough *yet* for your dr to give you a disease (label) or drug to mask the symptom.

And that’s where so many women get stuck…

Because conventional medicine waits for disease to develop and compromise the body SO deeply that bloodwork or your tissues show it on scans.

They’re waiting for a clear breakdown before they can act (even then, you’re given meds to mask symptoms, not address them at the root)

But your symptoms don’t start there my friend, once bloodwork is abnormal 🙅🏻‍♀️

They start years earlier, even decades for some
people. It’s the little things that have been brushed off month after month, year after year.. the visits that have led nowhere..

Before you know it your gut is off
Your hormones shift
When energy is depleted
When mood and motivation goes down

And none of that shows up clearly on standard bloodwork.

That’s because blood is VERY tightly regulated.

Your body will keep it looking normal (to keep your heart beating and body breathing) even when things underneath are not.

Bloating that’s persistent or uncomfortable, daily or accompanied by gas, pain, irregular p**ps or is unpredictable isn’t normal 🚫

If you have to eat a restrictive diet to avoid becoming bloated, that’s not normal either 🙅🏻‍♀️

👉🏼The 5 top reasons we find at the ROOT of bloating when we use functional stool testing inside my Happy Gut Reset program include:

1. H pylori bacteria - lowering your stomach acid, allowing protein to be inadequately broken down, leading to potential bacterial overgrowth downstream

2. Candida overgrowth - leading to persistent (sometimes since childhood, like me) sugar cravings, skin issues like excema and persistent bloating when you eat foods that feed it (refined grains, sugar, alcohol)

3. Insufficient beneficial bacteria - without enough of the good guys, you can’t maintain a healthy gut wall. With a leaky gut you have increased inflammation, poor breakdowns of fibre (causing bloating for example) and negatively affecting mood, energy and focus (which are all dependant on your beneficial stains to help make your b vitamins, vitamin k and the bulk of your neurotransmitters)

4. Leaky gut- driven by excess cortisol, alcohol, pesticides to name a few things. When your gut lining is leaky, it’s inflamed. This will cause symptoms outside of being bloated too, like “IBS” , food sensitivities, joint pain, brain fog, mood swings and more.

5. Bacterial overgrowth aka SIBO - a complex multifactorial issues caused by any number of things - poor lifestyle habits, antibiotic use, chronic stress, snacking, late night eating, chronic constipation etc.

It’s super common to get constipated when travelling. 🧭

👉🏼Here’s what actually helps (and what I do to stay regular even with a 10 hour flight and 4 hour time difference)

✈️ Reset your rhythm fast

Your gut follows your brain.

Morning light + movement = turn digestion back on

💧 Hydrate like it’s your job

Flights dry you out → your stool hardens
Water with electrolytes first, coffee second

🌯Eat enough — not just “clean”
Under-eating = slowed motility. You literally won’t have enough bulk to form a healthy p**p!

Protein + fat + fiber at every meal (all of my happy gut recipes and meal plans are built this way which is why it helps you get and stay regular fast!)

🚶‍♀️ Move your body daily

Walking is one of the best natural motility tools! If you don’t walk, your bowels literally can’t move.

🧠 Get out of fight-or-flight

Stress shuts digestion down. Take deep breaths throughout the flight and day.
Slow down when you eat and chew your food well!

Here’s what no one is talking about:

👉🏼Doing more of what’s not working won’t make it work ladies 🚫

Our bodies aren’t only a sum of what we consume in our diet and how we move!

Our body is a complex system with a microbiome that even out numbers the human cells in your body (yup, you are more bacteria than you are human!) and the impact and importance of your gut microbiome and digestion *cannot* be over stated 🤓

From creating 90% or your body’s serotonin, 50% of your gaba and dopamine, converting 20% of your thyroid hormone, gatekeeping toxins and food particles out of the blood stream, immune surveillance in the gut to keep your body thriving - there is no greater thing you can do for your health than take care of your gut and the microbes within it!

When gut issues go unchecked for years, even a decade or more with some women I work with, that then creates gut damage to the gut lining ( aka leaky gut) which can then create symptoms *outside* the digestive tract - anxiety/depression, skin issues like rosacea or acne, joint pain or muscle aches, slowed thyroid (hypothyroid), even autoimmune disease!
