There are many conditions where painful in*******se is one of the symptoms. This is why a huge percentage of women experience distress.

Share this post ,so someone suffering in silence knows that they can find help.

While treatment for specific conditions needs attention from appropriate Medical professionals, using a holistic and integrated approach makes the most sense to achieve lasting results.

Vaginismus [Vag-uh-nis-mus], is a condition that affects 12-21 % of individuals in North America alone and many more worldwide. Also known as "Genito Pelvic Pain pe*******on disorder".This condition has many silent sufferers. It is often uncomfortable and embarrassing for people to discuss, which adds to a lack of education and awareness about treatment.

September 15th is Vaginismus Awareness Day.
Let us break the taboo and start having a conversation about this very treatable condition.

March is Endometriosis Awareness month. Endometriosis is painful condition that affects about 1 in 10 uterus owners globally. I think this is a heavily underreported statistic. Taboo around women's health conditions, hesitation to seek care, and sometimes dismissive approach from health care professionals make it hard to even get a diagnosis.

Let's change the narrative....
educate, inform and empower to raise awareness about Endometriosis.

A pelvic floor physiotherapist has special training to assess the structures inside the pelvis through the vaginal or re**al opening. Depending on your concerns this part of the exam can provide your therapist with very detailed information on your condition and the best way to treat it. However, this does not mean you must have an internal exam. Some patients are not comfortable with this part of the exam. If you are not comfortable with this part of the exam you can share this information with your therapist. Then you can decide with your therapist what you are comfortable with. Here are some alternatives to a traditional internal exam:
- Only using subjective information. This is where your therapist will ask detailed questions and gather all the information required to move forward with treatment. This exam does not involve the therapist touching your body at any point.
- Having your pelvic floor physiotherapist liaise with your family doctor to share important objective data and details. Your physiotherapist can use this information to guide treatment.
- Palpation (pressing on structures) through a layer of clothing.
- Visual exam only.
If you have concerns about having an internal exam there are many alternatives. You can discuss your specific concerns with your therapist at anytime. At Lakeview Physiotherapy all of our pelvic floor physiotherapists are able to work with you to ensure you are comfortable and consent to all parts of an exam.

More than half of the women in their reproductive age experience this in thier lifetime....

September is Sexual health awareness month.
Postpartum s*xual health is often a missed piece when we talk about Womens health. It is important to address this aspect of recovery when we discuss rehab after delivering a baby.

A lot of factors influence a woman's wellbeing in that time.Discussions about sensory changes in the skin, libido, fear or apprehension around s*x, ideas on body image, muscle health are all very important.

Consult a Pelvic Health physiotherapist who specializes in this area and will ensure that you return back to feeling like yourself again .
