I love making my own blends 🌿✨ And once you understand this simple framework, you may never look at your oils the same way again.
Every blend has three layers, a concept borrowed from the world of perfumery, where scents are designed to unfold over time.
The same principle works perfectly for roller blends.
Why? Because each oil evaporates at a different rate (volatility):
🌿 Top notes evaporate first
🌸 Middle notes unfold more slowly
🌳 Base notes linger the longest
Together they create an opening, a heart and a lasting finish, like a beautifully composed piece of music.
🌿 TOP NOTES — approx. 30% (3 drops in a 10mL roller)
The first impression. Light, bright and uplifting — these are the oils you notice first.
Think: Lemon, Wild Orange, Peppermint, Bergamot, Grapefruit
🌸 MIDDLE NOTES — approx. 50% (5 drops)
The heart of the blend. These oils often carry the therapeutic intention — calm, balance, emotional support or comfort.
Think: Lavender, Geranium, Roman Chamomile, Rosemary, Cypress, Clary Sage
🌳 BASE NOTES — approx. 20% (2 drops)
The foundation. Rich and grounding oils that anchor the blend and help it last longer.
Think: Frankincense, Cedarwood, Vetiver, Myrrh, Copaiba, Sandalwood
✨ Simple formula for a 10mL roller:
3 drops top note
5 drops middle note
2 drops base note
Top up with Fractionated Coconut Oil.
That’s 10 drops total (~5% dilution) — suitable for adult pulse point use.
Blending isn’t about perfection 🌿
Start with one oil from each layer and experiment from there ✨
