Better late than never to share! 📰

I was so honoured to be interviewed by amongst other HS Experts for The Chronicle of Skin Allergy last year!

We specifically discussed why deroofing is more effective & less intensive than excision in , and other evidence-based procedures such as laser hair removal & steroid injections.

4 cm nodule x 2 months = 11 mm ulcerated nodular melanoma + deep excision

This depth + ulceration = Referral to Multidisciplinary Melanoma Clinic = sampling lymph nodes + surgical removal + ongoing dermatologist skin checks x 5 years

Fortunately, SPF + Advances in Melanoma Treatment = Positive Outcomes!

Therefore, (level up)^SPF!

From ridiculed to rid of it.

After just 2 sets of steroid injections into this plaque of lichen simplex chronicus, this patient’s itch & texture has finally resolved & his friends stopped ridiculing him for it!

Lichen simplex chronicus can often be found in eczema patients and results from chronic scratching an itchy area. Unfortunately, scratching only releases more itch signals, causing further itching and tightening of the skin. Steroid injections into the area helps to break the itch scratch cycle.

WOW, what a landmark collaboration between Dermatology, General Surgery & Plastic Surgery this week!

, Dr Chris Keeling & Dr Ralph George (a General Surgeon from Toronto) spoke at Calgary Surgical Grand Rounds to strengthen our relationships in caring for patients.

We even had a chance to connect with colleagues from Rheumatology, Emergency Medicine & Infectious Diseases the night before!

My initiative for these discussions came from an overwhelming need for help from our colleagues, especially our surgical ones in managing severe HS. I hope this is the first step to our dream of having each other on the team!

Giving back is the best gift!

I’m proud to be invited be a presenter as a Clinical Lecturer at ’s Dermatology in Colour Evening for Medical Students, an evening dedicated to discussing dermatologic conditions with perspectives in mind.

Over 100 medical students spent time out of their evening to learn about skin cancers - did you know that skin cancers can DEFINITELY occur in patients with sun of colour, and are often diagnosed at later stages because of lower awareness & recognition?

Dermatology in Colour is just one small step to building skin equality & diversity in education, and it’s incredible to see the changes in two short years of graduating from residency already!
